A Little About Me:
Black Bourdain
World Story Teller - One Life Story At A Time
Uyuni is a once in a lifetime experience that you must visit in Bolivia. Uyuni can be reached by 2 hour air flight or 8 hour bus ride. I recommend you spend 2-3 days there and visit - The Train Graveyard, The Colchani Salt Processing Plant, The Glass Mirror, Hot Springs, and Laguna Colorada or Colored Lagoons. It is rare to see black people in Bolivia especially in Uyuni so do not be surprised if the locals ask to take a photo with you.
La Paz is a fantastic city to visit. For Bolivians to see Black people is a very rare sight, it was a very regular occurrence to be asked to have a photo taken with them. La Paz is full of life and items to do. From the Basilica San Francisco to the Witches Market to the majestic Mirador Kili Kili where you can get a breathtaking view of the city, it is worth visiting for 2 days. My favorite activity was taking the Mi Teleferico or aerial cable car and taking in the entire city from the air. The nightlife is fantastic with many restaurants to enjoy at affordable prices. I recommend you also visit Uyuni which is a 10 hour bus ride away or 2 hour flight. To visit the Glass Mirror during rainy season is worth the memories
Petra is a once in a lifetime must visit location. As one of the Seven Wonders of the World, you are given the opportunity to journey through the path to the Treasury where each look to your right or left is filled with history within the stone. The Treasury itself will blow you away and you will easily spend 3 hours with photos and videos from the ground level to overhead views for your memories. Take care when dealing with the Bedouins if you are solo traveling. I recommend you bring a local guide with you they are available at the Petra Tourist Center for $50 USD and you will not be harassed. The Bedouin are very friendly people but be wary. I recommend you walk the entire path from the Treasury to the Royal Tombs to the Monastery. The area is so rich with history that it is not worth stopping at the Treasury and leaving like many tourists do.
Cairo is a fantastic city to start your journey in Africa and get a taste of the Middle East at the same time. Cairo during the day offers many opportunities to appreciate its history from the pyramids, the mosques, and Old Cairo to the opportunity to participate in one of the oldest bazaars in the world and enjoy a cup of tea while enjoying the buzzing of bartering between merchants and customers to the nightlife where you can enjoy a glass of wine while enjoying a cruise on the Nile River while enjoying entertainment such as belly dancing and Egyptian folk dance or enjoying the city skyline from Cairo Tower. These experiences are very affordable as is the accommodation. I recommend taking lodging in Pyramid Square where each morning you can get the best view of the Pyramids when you wake up while having breakfast.
