Royalton Negril Review
I was quite concerned after reading many negative reviews regarding staying at the Royalton in Negril. I must admit things were a little rocky at the start of my vacation. We arrived around 7:30pm. We are staying in the Diamond Club section so check in for the Diamond Club was closed. (no big deal)
When we arrived our room was great but noticed the AC wasn’t working to its full capacity and hinges to cabinet that holds the refrigerator came apart.
The next morning we called maintence and the guy arrived about 30 minutes later and fixed both items. On our way to breakfast we learned that dinner reservations must be made the same day due to COVID. Usually, no reservations are needed. The desk to make the reservations was located near the buffet where breakfast is served. When we arrived, at 10:00 am every restaurant was booked up for the day. I was told by another guest, that people lined up at 8:30 am to make dinner reservations and my 9:30am everything was booked. This made me a little upset on my vacation I would have to stand online every day and hope to get reservations to eat at a restaurant fir dinner. I decided to speak to the customer service manager. She was very nice and explained the protocol had change to eat in restaurants due to Covid. She also informed me that she would try to accommodate me and my buttler (who comes with the Diamond club reservations) would make my reservations everyday so I would have to get up early and stand on the line. To my surprise, everyday he was able to get us into a restaurant for dinner to eat. Problem solved!
I will admit dining service was slow.
The grounds here are clean, pool is clean, hand sanitizer stations are everywhere in the public eye, masks are enforced. Food was okay, they served traditional Jamaican food unlike some resorts in Jamaica. The jerk station food was the best. I ate the jerked chicken and pumpkin soup. It was decent for resort food.
On Christmas Day, the Grintch came out to the pool area to see the kids, followed by a local marching band of students. A hour later, Santa arrived by a boat to the beach. He gave out Christmas presents to all the children at the resort. They were decent little toys. My daughter received a toy microphone.
We stayed in building one. After reading reviews, I was prepared for the building to be far away from the main building. I was okay with it. The walk gave us exercises daily. There was a pool right in front of our building and the beach was nice and clean and located just outside building. Very little sea weed and the water was calm.
Nightly entertainment was great every night at 9:00pm they had a dance show followed by a DJ to play music outside by the martini bar until 1:00am. The music they played was great they kept everyone entertained and dancing all
night. Wearing masks were enforced! However, there were those who didn’t obey like home in the states.
My personal experience was good.
I would definitely return to the Royalton in Negril.
PS: The Hideaway (adult side) is now open. It was closed since March due to Covid.
