Krabi is the more relaxed and quieter part of Phuket. I think more older people tend to stay in this section of Phuket as it is not raided by loud and fun-having young people such as Patong, for example. You wont really find much night life there as most people visit Krabi and its beach for relaxation and resting purposes. You will still find nice water sports there as well, but if you are looking for a good time and meet other young people from all over the world then Krabi isn't your place. It still is a beautiful place though but depending on what your objective is when visiting Thailand it might leave you a bit underwhelmed. The food and affordability is pretty much the same as anywhere else in Phuket.
Phi Phi Islands is probably the highlight of all the tours you will go on in Thailand. Needless to mention that it is incredibly beautiful, you will be able to see other amazing smaller islands and beaches as part of your tour. The two highlights for me were Maya Bay and Monkey Beach. The monkeys on Monkey Beach appear cute but are really dangerous and aggressive. You will be advised by your tour guide to keep your distance. One of the tourists on our boat got scratched pretty bad on the back and had to get medication. The food on Phi Phi Islands is pretty much the same as anywhere else in Thailand and you will be given an option to eat mostly western food. The water sports is really amazing but you will have to pay in addition to your tour fee in order to jetski for example. It is also advisable to do the Phi Phi tour by speedboat and not by long-tail boat as it is very popular and long-tail boats are far slower than speedboats. The result is that all the amazing spots will be overcrowded and kind of tarnish your ability to enjoy the tour.
I just returned from Phuket, Thailand and it was the most incredible experience of my life!! There is so much to do in Phuket that I actually could not do many things there despite the fact that I still got to participate in a lot. I firstly recommend that anyone going to Thailand must do both the Phi Phi Island and James Bond tours. The stop at Maya Bay (which forms part of the Phi Phi tour) was by far the best with the most breath-taking scenery and amazing water (the water is quite salty though). I took amazing pics there! I would also recommend on going on the Phuket City tour which takes you around the city to see some landmark places which you probably wouldnt see or experience but for the tour. For example, I saw the Big Buddha and on that particular day, the monks were busy praying and doing their teachings with their masters. It was so incredible to watch!!
When booking tours please use the locals who have tourist stands throughout Phuket and not formal companies at hotels which are ridiculously expensive. For example, for Phi Phi Islands the company at the resort offered the tour at 3100Baht but I got the same trip for about 1000Bhat using the locals.
I think a trip to Thailand is incomplete without a visit to the Green Elephant Sanctuary. Unfortunately the elephants in Thailand are not treated well at all and are mainly used to make money. I saw two baby elephants chained on one leg and clearly looking unwell. They also hit the animals, really sad. The Green Elephant Sanctuary rescues the elephants and rehabilitates them back to normalcy. You will get to feed them, give them a mud spa and also a nice wash in the pool. That was so much FUN!
Please go to Bangla Road for atleast one night of your trip, thats the party central of Phuket! You will be offered very interesting and eyebrow-raising things though lol. But if you are not into crazy stuff then just take a walk down the road to experience the party atmospehere, it really is awesome.
Other than that, everything was super cheap and the food was actually good.
Thanks,
Phemelo
