This is like the place you go to escape the noise and hustle/bustle of everyday life. We stayed at Grand Hótel Reykjavík. Totally random, but I swear Iceland has the best water in the world. It was so good and refreshing :-). While expensive, this is definitely worth a 72 stopover if possible. We flew on the now RIP Wow Air for the low low, so we managed to save on our flights. There just aren't enough food options and restaurants closed too early. There just were not enough restaurants and food options, but admittedly, I'm spoiled living in the heart of LA where I have Korean, Mexican, Burgers, Kabobs, etc. all within a few blocks and open very late.
I did three days in Phuket solo before meeting up for a group trip in Bangkok. I stayed at the Amari Phuket Hotel & Resort in the Resort style suite bungalows. The view was to die for and I got to escape the bustling hotel to my personal apartment. They drove me back and forth from my room in these private golf carts and waited on me hand and foot. It was so quiet and peaceful at night. The overall hotel was amazing and the exceptional and attentive service is surely missed out here in LA ;-).
I had an amazing 72 hours in Stockholm! I'm already trying to figure out how to finesse my mileage points into a mid-summer trip. I stayed at the Downtown Camper Hotel. Don't let the name full you, its a hip and modern stay for 20s, 30s something folks who are looking to be in the center of it all. I did not get the weird staring and perplexed looked I had in Copenhagen and I saw plenty of brown, black, Asian, Middle Eastern, etc. folks working and walking around the city. This makes me feel more comfortable. I met a Brit at my hotel bar in March on a Tuesday. We hit it off and ended up taking the party to Soap Bar; a cool bar that transformed into a nightclub on a weeknight! They played Top 40 music and some old school hip hop. The drinks were pricy but strong. You may see me on the scene in Stockholm this summer!
Stay at the Clarion Hotel. It's gorgeous, quiet and has an amazing rooftop bar. There is also a tram stop right in front of the hotel that takes you into the heart of downtown in 8 minutes.
