I had an amazing time in bangkok! I visited several temples, museums, did a boat tour and michelin food tour. There were so many things to do and eat and the people were very friendly. Get as many massages as you can! They are very affordable.
Iโm happy to see so many positive reviews from black peoples saying they had a good experience, but that was not my case at all. This was my first big international trip and how I got treated when I went pre-covid, still makes me hรฉsitant to travel Asia. I was traveling with my black male partner and all the open mouth stares and picture taking had me on edge. By the end of my 10 days in Thailand, I didnโt even want to leave the hotel.
I traveled Thailand extensively with a white friend in December 2022, and the country may actually be my favorite on Earth. The people are warm, welcoming and friendly. No hateful stares, no comments. People here are genuinely curious about black peoples, with my natural hair and styling tools/method being a particular subject of interest. However, unlike American racism, there is no sense of hatred or superiority attached to it, just genuine curiosity about someone who is different.
The food is amazing and beyond affordable. If you make a small effort to learn just a few words in Thai, this will help you along greatly. I would honestly consider relocating to Thailand, if only the 12 hr time difference between Bangkok and Washington DC (where my business is based) didnโt present such a challenge.
My hubby and I traveled to Thailand because he loves Thais food. This was the least expensive trip we ever took. Both the lodging, tours and food were very reasonable. The Thai people are friendly and relaxed. Culturally the various temples are amazing. We flew into Bangkok and stayed for four days, then we took a local flight to Chaing Mai for the temples. We spent about two nights there and then flew back to Bangkok for a spa treatment our last night there. This is the first time I’ve traveled and could just walk around and “be.” No nasty looks, I was treated like a guest in someone’s home. I never had one of those “here we go again” moments when I was reminded I was black; it was nice to just exist. I would definitely go back.
We visited Bangkok for two days in August 2023. We were short on time so we used the greenbook global site to determine activities and utilized the TripAdvisor link to book tours and get points for more travel! Our first tour was a tuk tuk night tour, we visited the Giant Swing, the Grand Palace, ate street food, the flower market and Chinatown. The tour started at 6:30 and ended around 10 pm and the tuk tuk, took us back to our hotel. The food is sooo good!
Our second day, we did a custom private tour. We took public transportation, which helps you acclimate to the city a bit more. Our guide Yuut was a monk for 10 years and a guide for 4 years. We visited Wat Pho, Wat Arun, the Grand Palace & Wat Traimit. We also, did a canal tour via a boat, which showed the homes within the community and some of the more traditional Thai architecture. We also, visited some street food markets, tried Durian (the smelliest fruit), Chinatown for shopping and our guide provided some data along the way.
We stayed at a smaller boutique hotel called Amadeang Riverside Bangkok, which was a great location and close to public transit and the street markets.
8 hours in the rainy season with 100% humidity is a lot, if we had more time, I would have spaced out the tour and added in some beach time and nightlife. We definitely want to explore more. Thailand in general is a poorer country, but rich in history. Food, costs very little. Even entry into the temples was less than $10 for two people. They don’t expect tips, but we would typically round up the amounts, because the cost was so low. Try to get small denominations, tuk tuk drivers do not have change.
There were no issues traveling while black, the only thing I noted was the fact that when we landed at the airport, there was a separate customs area for those traveling from Africa and South America, which felt suspect to me.
Bangkok is a famous city know for its clubs food and lady boys. People are friendly but dont talk about the king in public or you face arrestment or fines, however if you know a local they wall tell you exactly what they truly feel about him behind closed door. he’s not really popular and most of time lives in Europe.
There’s many reasons why people go to Thailand. The food, services and other things are great. I booked a room when I was there and stayed for a year and met some cool locals. I never really went to the touristy area which is sol 11, this is where the clubs and bars are. Kaoshan road is more interesting, dont be surprised to see fried crickets, spiders and other things to eat. I had snake and crocodile once! All in all you wont be disappointed but of course SE Asia is hot so be prepared for that. I regret not exploring more as I mainly stayed in BKK but theres Chang Mai to the north thats another major city, I might visit that next time.
When I say Bangkok changed my life!!!! I love this city so much. Not only is there so much to do at an affordable price, but thereโs so much beauty and excitement. You can go to Soi 11 for nightlife, Nana Plaza (if youโre into that), Khao San Road, Soi Cowboy, and so much more! And during the day, you can find markets with fresh fruit and more food than you care to see and eat, and beautiful temples that will captivate you for days! I also think this city doesnโt sleep because you can find something to do until at least 4am or sunrise!
Black travelers, I think itโs exciting for us because not only are we invited and can feel right at home. Bangkok is also a hub to travel to other cities in SE Asia for cheap prices, especially on Air Asia! I have felt right at home in Bangkok and all of Thailand so I highly recommend Thailand to everyone that wants to go and can handle that 21 hour flight!
This country is my absolute favorite and gets 5 stars down the line. Itโs cheap, the massages are very cheap, the street food is amazing, they have elephant sanctuaries, the people are very welcoming. It was a very spiritual awakening trip for me and i plan on going back
I went up north to chiang Mai, a small country town, a hour flight north of Bangkok. It was only $30 one way. Bangkok is similar to New York. Big, noisy, dirty, tons of people, a lot going on. I spent maybe $120 on accommodations in a whole two weeks
Great travel experience, I went with a travel group with older people. Food was very very cheap if you bough street food, the nicer hotels cost a little extra but are worth it. Loved the atmosphere. Definitely ran into a few weirdos wwho tried to take pictures with me but other than that it was a great time!
Bangkok is an amazing city . If you love food this is the place you have to be . The food are everywhere and very good. There are so many thing to see in Bangkok ( the temples , Chinatown, khao san road , markets , floating market…)
And if you are a solo traveler in South east asia and scared to be alone , Bangkok is one of the best place to meet people . There have so many backpackers over there.
I traveled with a group of 6 girlfriends and we had our whole trip mapped out for fun and vacay time. I would definitely suggest planning before you arrive, this isn’t a figure it out once you get there type of trip.
We stayed at the Eastin Grand Hotel Sathorn which was amazing; beautiful hotel, international cuisine, really helpful staff and you can catch the train from the hotel. This was helpful in many ways, including transit to and from the airport.
We had an amazing tour guide who traveled with us for two days; she was our historian, translator and cheerleader! From the floating market to Tiger Temple, riding elephants, trying street food in the Red Light District we made every second count in our 6 days in Bangkok.
Check out Vertigo and Moon Bar – crazy view from the 61st floor of the building and great drinks and Nahm for a really nice sit down dinner. The chef sent out some delicious and SPICY bites to try. When they ask if you want it spicy – just say no. Mild has more than enough kick to it. Be sure to try the street food and really anything from anywhere you stop for a bite. Everything is so fresh and so tasty!
I went to Thailand in 2018 with a small group of friends. It was a good and very affordable trip. The food is amazing and is vegan friendly. You can find a lot of food for any diet you have. Since itโs so cheap the world is yours over there. I donโt remember experiencing any racism. My favorite part about visiting Bangkok were the temples. It was such an eye opening experience. We dressed up in the traditional garments and the locals really appreciated it. We were even featured on the news there. So many people wanted to take pictures with us. Oh and also the massages! Wow. Iโd most definitely recommend Bangkok as PART of your travels to Thailand. Donโt just stop there.

There is so much history and wonder in Thailand. Everything from the temples and palaces were astonishing. Everything from food, drinks and transportation is cheap! To get around I used Thailandโs taxi app, Similar to Uber called โgrabโ.

Bangkok is the capital city of Thailand. Bangkok is a fascinating, exciting and an amazing city to visit. Bangkok never goes to sleep. If you want to shop at 1 am or 2 am you can do that. You have to visit the grand palace. It is the most famous attraction in the city. The palace at one time was the Kongโs home as well as the place where the government of Thailand carried out their work. Be ready to spend many hours as there are over 214,000 sq. Meters to cover. Take a trip around Chatuchak Market. With over 8000 stalls covering 27 acres of space this is one of the largest markets in the world. Open every Saturday and Sunday it attracts nearly 200,000 visitors a day. Eat out at Chinatown. Packed full of street vendors and restaurants the choice of places to eat will be endless with good prices. Explore the Bangkok nightlife. The City is famous for itโs nightlife scene and grown pretty big over the years. There is exciting nightclubs, amazing rooftop bars, hip cocktail bars and much more. Visit the Wat Arun with more than 31,000 Buddhist Temples spread out across Thailand and this one is one that you really want to see. The Temple is named after Aruba, the God of Dawn. Situated on the bank of the chao Phraya River. It stands at 79 meters tall. A must see in Bangkok. The people are friendly and welcoming. I have been there 4 to 5 times in the past 2 years because of how they make you feel. The affordability of Bangkok is just amazing. You can find hotels around $40 to $50 a day. The food is plentiful and cheaper than anywhere in the world.
The best place to get food is at the night markets. HOWEVER, keep in mind that some of the food may have been sitting out for awhile or maybe not prepared or handled the way western food is so there is a chance you could get an upset stomach. I did not get sick, but my travel buddy did.Just be vigilant!
My cousin and I really only had 48 hours in Bangkok. On our first day we just explored the area around our hotel. There were plenty of places to shop and eat. That night weโd booked a โluxuryโ dinner cruise. I must say this was a trip highlight. The cruise included a buffet of Thai food and a live cover band that was pretty good. We enjoyed Bangkokโs beautiful skyline by night. And took amazing IG worthy pics. For day 2 we booked a full day tour with a private guide via Trip Advisor. It was pricey ($150 each), but completely worth every penny on our limited schedule. Not only did the fee include a 9 hour tour with food, it also included our transportation from place to place. We visited all the major temples (Wat Pho, Golden Buddha, Emerald Buddha, etc), the Grand Palace, a canal tour, china town tour, and the flower market tour. Our guide was great and shared a lot of the rich history with us. It was a long long hot day, but we saw pretty much all the major landmarks in Bangkok. That night we actually ended up going back to River City where we caught our dinner cruise from the night before. This place was a mall with several art exhibits. So cool. We got to souvenir shop and support local artists. Very impressive place to hang out.
If youโre looking to learn and appreciate culture Bangkok is the place to go. From the street food, temples and more. The people are very friendly and cultured. The food is very inexpensive, you can get a meal for about $3 dollars. Getting around Bangkok you can take a โtuk-tukโ for about $7 USD or their sky train for about $2 USD. If youโre planning to visit make sure you add all the temples on your to see list itโs very beautiful. China town at night for the action and great food. For shopping be sure to add the weekend market and floating market to your list. Overall Bangkok is very safe I love it.
Not a lot of people know about it, but a must when i visiting Bangkok is Maeklong RailRoad. Itโs about an hour outside of Bangkok and trust me itโs very interesting. Itโs a food market built along the railway. And every 30- hour a train comes through and the market owners have to pull back there tents and it becomes a huge photo-op. Definitely suggest it and trying to the local food!
Bangkok was one of the best trips I’ve been on. There is something for everybody in the group here. You have constant relaxation around the hour. They offer Thai massages for about 15 bucks an hour. The Food is incredible but It is advise that you go easy on the street food or pack meds if you have weak stomach. The night light is LIVE, comparable to a New Orleans Bourbon street crowd, you can enjoy different parties on Khao San Road. This is the most popular street with people from all over the world. There are also lots of good hotels and Airbnbs in the area. Bangkok Saran is one the best and most convenient hotels. You can also take a flight/boat to near by islands such as phi phi and Phuket. Here you can site see and swim in the beaches, or you can just sail and do some fishing. The Two Sea Tour is one of the most popular and affordable. Be sure to check out the elephant jungle sanctuary in Chiang Mai and also tiger kingdom in Phuket the employees are really nice and the animals are friendly. The locals are very welcoming to tourist but this is considered to be a New Industrialized Country which means it is under-developed and there are a lot of natives seeking assistance from tourist. So be patient and kind because they are less fortunate, help out if you can. Overall, great place and I look forward to going back.
Khao San Road is where the party is! It similar to Bourbon St. There are a ton of bar filled with music and drinks priced super cheap.
Having spent a total of 3 days in Bangkok, I am not very impressed with the city itself. If you have time, I recommend a 100% to spend a day in Ayutthaya. It’s only 1hour train ride which costs 20baht each way if you catch the Express train and 12 baht for the regular train which takes about 20 minutes longer. There you get to visit many old temples. There are 6 that require an entrance fee (50baht) but I recommend to pay 220 baht for a ticket tagt allows you to visit all 6. Start at Wat Phra Mahthat. Right across the street, rent a bike for 50baht for the day and you can basically ride your way to llthe 6 temples. I’m not a great ike and managed to do it all by bike. The traffic is not as hectic as Bangkok. I wouldnt recommend renting the bikes from the train station. A tuk tuk will cost 100 baht from the train station to the temple. The drivers will try to sell you an all day tour but I think the experience is better if you ride around and go at your own pace. Make sure to bring something to cover your shoulders and no shorts allowed.
Helpful tips for Bangkok:
– do not try to bargain a price with the taxi drivers. You will be better off using the meter (found out the hard way). Its illegal for them to refuse to use the meter. If they do, just hail another cab. Bangkok is saturated with taxis.
– do your research before visiting tourist attractions. A taxi driver wanted to charge us r00 baht to drive us to the floating market (which opens only on weekends). We declined and the next cab we hailed said he can take us there for 200. He quickly made a phone call to his boss who informed us the market was closed since it was a Monday. I’m sure the previous driver knew that but sis not care and would have driven us there anyway.
– since it is hot and most people wear minimal clothing, make sure you have a scarf because you wont be able to visit the temples with bare shoulders or anything above the knees, including visit to the palace in Bangkok.
Overall, Bangkok is a good city to visit but I wouldn’t recommend spending more than a few days. I didnt have a single bad experience as a black traveler but I did find the people in Bangkok less friendly than northern Thailand.
Bangkok is amazing for food, culture, history and affordability, all of these things make it great for an adventure, ever since Iโve been Iโve encouraged people I know to make a trip because they would have a brilliant time, you can start your day off with a Thai massage, relax by a rooftop pool because there are so many, and more than likely will be one at the hotel you stay at, then for the day go on a boat ride and see the floating markets, visit the temples or the airplane graveyard and in the evening go to Khao San Road, which is fab, full of bars and clubs and the street food is tasty and cheap! I went during the water festival and everyone was throwing water at each other, using hoses, buckets and water guns, tuk tuks are the preferred way of transport and make sure you haggle! I loved Bangkok and I am definitely going again next year.
My experience in Thailand was amazing, I visited Bangkok, Phuket and Koh Lanta. The temples (Wat Arun, Grand Palace and temple of emerald and Wat Pho) in Bangkok are amazing and full of history, the floating market is a must see, this is where the market is on the water and you ride with the boat through it. The food, hotels and night life are so affordable too.
Bangkok is beautiful. It is were modern meets tradition. It is also voted a great place for foodies! There is great street food on every corner to try. Try a bit of everything. Its super cheap, so why not! When I went with friends in 2016 we made a turn down a street full of bars and stripclubs. It was interesting and very unique to their culture. Don’t be afraid to explore. Take in the colorful scenery and traditional architecture. See the floating markets as well. I wasn’t able to be there long, but visiting there made me want to live there. I regret not making the move.
Overall Bangkok is a lively city and the food is amazing. One thing have to do is go to Khao San Rd at night for the food and music.
Hereโs a Tip!
Beware of getting scammed by the Taxi/Took Took drivers in Thailand.
2 Reasons:
1.You will be charged more depending on how much info they can gather on you. From the Hotel you stay at it to even to the restaurant your request can let them know how deep your pockets are. Be mindful of where you get picked up and where you request to be dropped. I would often give them a location a block away from where Iโm staying Or use GRAB which was their version of UBER to lock in a fair rate.
2. Once they identify that youโre a tourist you probably donโt want to go to any place that they recommend. They often get a kickback for taking tourists to certain places and odds are you def donโt want to go. Bro hyped me up to go to a massage place while on the way to the Grand Palace. Even offered to sit and wait for me until I was done to take me there. Long story short I did my research and kindly declined his offer.
Went to Thailand in April 2018 on a girls trip. Super dope. Thailand was high on my list so I was happy to get there and enjoy what it had to offer and I was not disappointed.
We went to Bangkok first for 2 days. Which ended up not being the best thing. There is some holiday in April while we were in Bangkok and all the major temples everyone would want to see were closed. We did the floating market but again a lot of the shops were closed. Some where open so we still had a good experience. Missing the temples was kind of wack but this was out of our control so we made the best of it and saw what we could which ended up being a lot of the smaller temples that you can just go to without passes or tickets. Bangkok is a busy robust city way more than I expected so that was a highlight for me. We stayed at the Tower Club at Lebua which is where they filmed Hangover movie. Accommodations were great for our size 8 people. We got two apartment style rooms. Very clean and food was good at the hotel. They have one of the highest restaurant at this hotel and the view is absolutely gorgeous. Would definitely recommend staying here.
My group also went to Phuket and Phi Phi Islands. Phuket was definitely my favorite out of the two. We had a gorgeous Airbnb house. Phuket has great restaurants that we loved! I have a list if you are interested. For the nightlife we hit Bangla Road a few nights which is very interesting to say the least. Definitely, something you have to go to and experience at least once if you are in Phuket. Phi Phi Island was my least favorite and it was only because of our hotel. The hotel was older and it just was not pretty. Luckily we didn’t have to stay long. I’d say research the hotels in Phi Phi because they tend to be older. I did love being able to visit all the nearby islands while in Phi Phi Islands. It is essentially a boozy cruise boat tour that you can do which is majority of the day and I highly recommend the islands there are nothing like anything you will ever see in the states or Caribbean. We hit Carby Island, Monkey Beach, and I want to say two more popular beaches.
Thailand overall is a very affordable trip once you get there. My friend who was with me on this trip had went two years prior and did say she saw inflation in some price but Thailand is a developing country with a lot of tourism so it is expected that as the years pass it will become more pricey but not anything way out of this world. I definitely recommend Thailand and plan on vising Bangkok for sure since I missed a few things on my list to do and I’d definitely go back to Phuket for sure.
Traveling while Black in any part of Asia is interesting because they literally are so amazed by us. They will just come up to you and ask for pictures and just depending on the person or group of people you run into they can be kind or rude about it. Rude in the sense not asking to take a picture but rather just walk up to you and start snapping. I do not try to take it as personal or let it get to me. I am traveling to have fun and be safe and as long as you do not disturb my peace I am open to whatever within reason :).

I had a great couple days in Bangkok last month, I went for work and took my partner with me. Bangkok is such a busy colourful place, has so many beautiful temples to visit, one of our favourite things that we done whilst there was the floating market, we were staying in the centre of Bangkok and it was a bit of a journey to get there (2hrs) but we had a great time. Itโs basically a market on water and you float around on a boat and stop at the market stools that interest you. I think itโs quite a tourist attraction but thereโs lots of great food and things to see! Make sure you try true coconut ice cream!
Thailand was one of the countries I visited as part of my mini Southeast Asia tour. I instantly fell in love with the country because of its people and culture. For some reason it reminded me a lot of Senegal, my home country.
While in Bangkok, I stayed at YOLO Bangkok Hotel. I found the hotel on airbnb, however, looking back I wish I would have stayed in a hostel. YOLO was very nice and affordable but hostels bare way cheaper and it is also a nice way to meet new people that are traveling as well.
I only stayed in Bangkok for two days, therefore, I did not get to do much. One of the spots I hit though, was Chatuchak Market. It is a market that comes alive on weekend nights ( Friday – Sunday ) and you can literally find EVERYTHING (even food ) for so cheap. Needless to say that I was in heaven lol . I bought some clothes, a purse, and some gifts to bring back for about $87 (yes, your money goes a looong way in Asia). I also participated in a floating boat tour that I found on Airbnb. It costed me about $32 but it was all worth it. It included the boat tour, lunch, a visit to a temple and orchid plantation . I enjoyed the boat tour a lot because it allowed me to see how other people live and to immerse myself in their culture.
Finally, the nightlife is all around Khao San Road, also referred to as Backpack Central. It is full of bars, restaurants, street food vendors, and masseuse. Khao San Road never sleeps so if you really wanna party, that is the place to go.
Thailand Is def on the top my list of places to go!
There is so many things to do here it really is endless, but could be overwhelming! the actually City of Bangkok is busyyy city, but the tuk tuks ( little motor cars) makes it east to get around. On Sunday the city was pretty dead and we got a driver who basically told is he would drive us around to different monuments throughout the day, we probably paid him $10 USD. He took us to get a tailored suit for my fiance, it was so quick, so inexpensive ($100 ish) and soo nice. I definitely recommend that because they know there city best!
We also really enjoyed the floating market such an awesome experience. But be careful everything is a hustle out here. When we kept asking the Taxi driver about how much the floating market would be he said he didnt know and we would find out when we get there. When we got there you sit there and the โsalespersonโ comes up to you and gives you this insane price that is more than what I saw online. We kept trying to lower it and they were def aggressive, but we had an honest budget that we set aside for this and they wouldnโt meet us there, so we left and then the Taxi driver began to try and pressure us. Once we got to the car the Taxi driver said fine they can do it for that amount. I found this interesting because the taxi driver clearly gets some cut of this, just beware you donโt know who is working with who and who is tryong to work you.
All in all we had something to do at all times of the day. I recommend Wat Aran, reclining Buddha, Golden Temple, Boat trip along Chao Phraya River, and of course a massage, we got an in room private one hour massage for about $10 each!!

There are plenty of things to do in Bangkok. Wat Saket (also known as the Golden Temple) and Wan Arun are dope historic places to visit to take in the culture. You can walk to the top of Wat Saket and get amazing views of the city.
The Damnoen Saduak floating market was my favorite excursion in and around Bangkok. You are taken on a row boat through a canal where vendors are lined up selling everything from food to souvenirs to even snakes! Definitely a dope experience and worth the trip.
Cruising the city in a tok-tok is another fun thing to do in Bangkok, and is an activity in itself honestly. You can take a tok-tok down and buy food and clothes from street vendors and make a night out of it.
The Lebua Sky Bar is a cool place to grab dinner, with its views of the city. It is on the rooftop of the Lebua at State Tower hotel and at night they play jazz and make it a lounge. Very dope. It was popularized by a scene in Hangover 2.
The Art in Paradise museum is another favorite spot of mine. It is a collection of illusions that are painted directly on the floors and wall and creates a really immersive atmosphere. Fun place to go and take pictures
Thailand occupies a large space in my heart! Bangkok was part 1 of two cities for my birthday trip. This place has so much to offer in terms of food, culture, activities, history etc. I stayed at Chatrium Riverside Hotel for three nights and used two days as tour days. I had found a tour guide on Tours by Locals who customized the tour to our needs. Day one, we visited a few of the well known temples such as Wat Pho, Wat Arun, Wat Phra Kaew. The reclining Buddha was definitely my favorite. While visiting the temples we used their Tuk Tuk as a means of transportation which pretty cool, affordable and gives the feel of actually being there. On this day, we were also taken to their local flower market and we were able to see a Thai Mask show. It is also a must that you try their long tail boat ride which was one of their very first means of transportation.
On day two, we made our way to the railway market first then to the floating market. This experience is an unforgettable one.. youโre able to purchase local foods, drinks, souvenirs for a good price. Please if you have a local tour guide let them negotiate prices for you. The vendors were really nice and were pretty amazed by the color of our skin. Many of them asked and sometimes insisted that we take pictures with them. This day ended with me doing the most daring thing Iโve ever done in my life.. which was visiting the tiger kingdom, entering their cage to take pictures.
Visiting Bangkok is an absolute must.. please feel free to check out my IG page @dachea.elle for pictures and vids of my trip!
The city is huge and can be a bit overwhelming but there is plenty to do. When my daughter wanted to visit the elephants, we didnโt have to go all the way to Chiang Mai. We used klook tours and paid a third of the price to visit and elephant sanctuary in Kanchanaburi. The tour also included a trip to the floating market.
Another inexpensive, fun tourist trap was the Giant Tours bus tour. We were able to get tickets online for $25 for two days. We visited some of the well-known landmarks and visit several temples throughout the city.
If you want some nighttime entertainment go to Sou Cowboy which was founded by a black man (itโs a bit wild).
We stayed in the Centrum Sukhumvit almost everything was near. Nightlife is amazing we went to โElevenโ bar/disco on the sixth floor, nice music drinks were good and vibe was amazing we payed 400 bath each including 2 drinks. They have plenty bars, so no need to look for to long. Khao san road was packed with so many people. But they do have the best streetfood go by night its more fun and more night markets. Bangkok is really affordable to the food is cheap the hotels to we stayed in 2 hotels during our one month stay. Ton Aor place and Grand business in nightmarkets shoppingmalls everything was good and really affordable. Check out Khlong Toei road for food and markets.
Take me back to Thailand, please!! I really didnโt want to leave. That place was remarkable. Bangkok was a busy, crowded city that if youโre not into large crowds and many tourists, you wonโt like it. But the night market, the floating market, and the temples were all must see/ must doโs. Khao San Road was party central. So many bars and so many vendors on the streets selling everything from cooked scorpions, to costume jewelry. I stay in a hotel because it was so cheap (around $25-$30 per night for a decent spot).
I then went on to Phuket and island hopped. I loveddddd Phuket. It was so beautiful. The waters were pristine, the views at Maya bay and the Phi Phi Islands were breathtaking. I did elephant bathing and tiger petting. Super exhilarating! The food was A1, especially the street food. Like you have to try street food. Itโs so cheap and so good! I would do Thailand again, every year! (Elephantjunglesanctuary.com for the elephant tour) You can google Tiger Kingdom Phuket to get that info. Also when island hopping use Air Asia for cheap flights.
IDK if its the beauty of the melanin as the sun glistens on our skin, but the amount of hospitality we received every where we went was heartwarming. The locals are very respectful and eager to help in any way possible. They would give us tips on where to go and what to say to the tuk tuk drivers to get local pricing. Always felt safe and welcomed everywhere we went. Definitely on the list of places that I NEED to return to!
Hollaaa!
I stayed in Thailand for about 2 weeks and everyday was a jam packed day of activities from the Grand Palace, Wat Arun, the floating market (probably one of my favorites) Thailand is a trip in the books. I can see it will be ideal fora girls/ boys trip. Many fun things to do.
Thailand has amazing foooooooood! I love Thai food already but sheesh Thai food in Thailand is another ball game. The first night I got there I went to the Sky bar and it was so beautiful, you see almost all of Bangkok in this skyscraper building with all the tasty foods it has to offer. Thailand is inexpensive and you will get a bang for your buck. Airbnbs are relatively cheap, hotels, food, etc. You can spend about $10 or less on a full meal. They have great rooftop parties with amazing views.
I went to the floating market and it was a gem. Fun experience and then I went to an elephant show as the country is known for their elephants.
I have a vlog up of Thailand on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lbv1z1I40AY
Welcome to Thailand! I traveled far and long for this dreamy travel destination. Thailand has some amazing beaches, temples, sky bars, and great food. I went to Thailand for my friendโs 30th Birthday celebration and it was great choice. It was a great girlโs trip getaway. Thai cuisine is one my favorite itโs a mix of sweet, spicy, savory, and nice presentation. We enjoyed some great Thai food on this trip and even learned how to cook Thai cuisine. We went to about seven cities/islands in Thailand (Bangkok, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Phuket, Phi, Krabi, and Chaing Mai). My favorite cities/islands that I recommend are (Bangkok, Koh Samui, Phuket, and Phi Phi).
I recommend staying in a big chain hotel like (Marriot, Hilton, and Hyatt) or popular boutique hotels for tourist. I traveled with Etihad Airlines to Bangkok with a few flight layovers in Ahu Ahabi, UAE and Mumbai, India. We got a chance to spend a night in Ahu Ahabi which was cool city that I wish we had more time to view. I recommend planning Thailand in advance for great flight deals and planning for the full moon party. I also recommend trying a Thai massage its one of the best for relaxation. Thailand is inexpensive to get around and easy for lodging accommodations itโs just a long and expensive flight. Thailand has great hospitality and Thai peoples are really nice and cater to tourist. Thailand reminds me of the Miami of Asia. For packing, I recommend bringing nice beach/bikini attire because itโs very hot and humid in Thailand. The beaches and nightlife are amazing.
Where to stay: I traveled to Bangkok and stayed there for 2 days before flying to Phuket and Phi Phi. I stayed at Hotel Indigo and used my IHG rewards points so it ended up being free. The nightly rate ranges on average from $89-$129 usd and breakfast is included in the nightly rate. Thereโs hundreds of hotels to choose from so thereโs options to fit everyoneโs budget and preferences. I choose this hotel mostly for the rooftop infinity pool which has amazingly beautiful views of the city. While in Bangkok we did a tour of the temples, visited the floating market, and walked the alleys trying different street foods. We got around mostly by taxi and the tuk tuks which are really cheap. When visiting the temples you much be covered so no crop tops, short shorts or sleeveless tops. They have stands outside of the temples where you can buy pants or tops, but they will deny entry if you arenโt dressed appropriately. I honestly fell that you only need about 2-3 days in Bangkok. Chiang Mai and Phuket are relatively easy and cheap to travel to from Bangkok so you should definitely look into those cities as well.
Traveling while Black: Everyone was super nice, welcoming, and accommodating. I never felt unsafe or uneasy at any time, and didnโt get any weird stares while out and about.
I loved Bangkok and it is definitely a place I’d love to visit again! If you’re in a “treat yoself” mood definitely check out Lebua at State Tower. My sister and I went with the chef tasting menu and the food was amazing! It is pricey… around $250 per person for the meal and a cocktail – but SO worth it. The view is also spectacular.
We also enjoyed learning how to cook authentic Thai food during a class at the Siamese Cookery House. You can search them on Facebook for more information. We made three dishes and dessert and got cookbooks to take home. It was a highlight of our trip!
I first traveled to Bangkok in March of 2018 with my friend for my birthday. I always wanted to experience Thailand and was so happy to find a cheap flight with Etihad. Etihad is an Ethiopian airline that is affordable and nice at the same time. We only stayed in Bangkok for about two days before island hopping to Ko Samui and Phuket. Bangkok is my least favorite city. It just doesn’t compare to other parts of Thailand.
We stayed at Tower Club at Lebua, Bangkok, which had a really cool sky bar. Tower Club Lebua is normally quite expensive but we found a deal on Expedia. Our room included breakfast and we had access to the club lounge in the evening, which provided snacks and drinks. The view from our room was amazing! We were high up overlooking the city. We went to the Skybar at night which was really cool. Its a rooftop bar located on the 64th floor. The views here are very nice. Drinks are pretty expensive though.
The nightlife in Bangkok is not the greatest, but better than other parts of Asia. As a black person, whenever I went out they always showed love.
Bangkok isn’t the cleanest but the food was really good and cheap.
My favorite part of Thailand was the floating market. You have to experience this when traveling to Bangkok. I got some really cute clothes there. They have set prices, but you can talk them down. Still very reasonable. We traveled using taxis and Tuk Tuk’s. When traveling to Thailand period, a Tuk Tuk is a must. The weather is very humid here though. It’s a different type of heat.
I would recommend Bangkok, but only for a day or two. Great people food and culture.
I absolutely love Bangkok. It is like any other major city with traffic and congestion, but the mass transit system works really well. I love that is has a modern city vibe but then historic temples that have been around for so many years, i want to say centuries but I’m not actually sure, lol. One of my favorite temples is Watt Arun, the temple of light, you can get there by boat if you want to try to skip all the traffic. Bangkok nightlife officially ends at 2 a.m. but there are a few different after-hours, just ask your taxi driver and they will get you to one. Bangkok is great city, enjoy everything it has to offer.
I traveled with two friends to Thailand. We visited Bangkok first for one day. Upon arrival at the airport the taxi driver was rude to us because did not have a hotel name, only an Airbnb address. Airbnb, weekly/daily renting is illegal but some people go through companies which makes it legal. He charged us an extra 100 baht and once we got to the Airbnb the service desk was extremely rude as well and after finally speaking to someone else he told us that they donโt like tourists. After that experience the rest of the night was fun. Nightlife was amazing, we went to a night market area and got street food then experienced a motorbike ride to a club. Overall the experience was rocky at first but turned out enjoyable.

I really enjoyed the food, do opt for the local cuisine which is much much more affordable than the popular fast food chain stores. They are big on rice (obviously) and seafood which is delicious
I’ve visited Bangkok on various occasions and this has to be one of the most affordable vacation spots on the planet a flight from LA to Bangkok was about $325 during the month of January and our Airbnb was a 2br with a full kitchen and pool for $31 a night including the cleaning fees. The US dollar here holds so much power as you can get a 3-course meal for about $6 USD. Various forms of transportations from the BTS (train) to grab taxi’s (Thailands form of Uber) we have traveled across town for as little as $2-$3 on a 20 min drive but of course prices do vary depending on the time of day rush hour etc. If you are looking to travel on a budget Bangkok Thailand should be on your list. Check out more on my youtube page https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jG-pr3v8c38
Bangkok is definitely my favorite South East Asian City at the moment. Iโve made 3 stops in Bangkok and with each visit, Iโm left in awe of of how much value I receive every time.
Hereโs a list of the activities I enjoyed the most:
1. Wat Arun and Wat Pho. Take a train and get onto a ferry to Wat Pho and Wat Arun. Wat Pho is known for having the largest gold sleeping Buddha in Bangkok. Wat Arun is probably the prettiest Temple Iโve been to. Itโs white in color, has floral designs on the walls and colorful glass tiles.
2. The traditional floating market. The tour involves observing the way of life of the people of the floating markets. You could ride a boat along the canals surrounded by traditional stilt houses and float past the vendors and purchase goods from the market.
3. The Royal Palace. This could definitely be an all day long activity depending on how much history you want to absorb. The palace is insanely huge and itโs a lot to get through. You have to be dressed appropriately to enter, so cover your shoulders and knees. If you donโt have anything appropriate to wear, you can buy a sarong at the gate or hire a shirt at the venue (usually a used sweaty one, so best be prepared).
My visit to Thailand was one of the best vacations of my life!! I booked my flight for $500 to Bangkok, and my flight to Phucket was only $40 from Bangkok. I stayed at the Hyatt hotel and used hotel rewards points for my stay. FYI there are no tigers in Bangkok. We went to visit the tigers in Tiger Kingdom in Phucket which was 30 minutes away from our hotel. I took $500 cash just for excursions and food. The list of excursions that I completed are as follows: visited the tigers, feed elephants, took a thai cooking class, thai massages, rode ATVs on the beach, got hugs from organgatans at the zoo, and visited the floating market. If you need more cash just ask to go to a seven eleven….they will have an atm. I booked my airplane ticket early for Phuket….2 to 3 weeks before I actually arrived in Bangkok. You just have to decide early how many days do You want to stay at beach. I booked the James Bond Island tour my first day in Bangkok. Booking your Phucket tour early needs to be a priority…..the best tours sell out quickly. We had to wait until our 3rd day to just do our island tour because day 1 and 2 of our stay all the best tours were sold out. The James Bond Island tour in Phucket was 8 hours long and food is provided in the floating city for lunch. We made 3 stops along the way, and Hong Kong Island was the highlight of my Thailand trip. I had a guide that rowed my canoe in the caves. The view of the mountains and ocean was breathtaking. Each day I tried to eat were the locals were eating so I didn’t eat hotel food every day. PROS of Thailand: All of the food, excursions, and hotel stay was very affordable. I ate rice and noodles every day so I was totally in food heaven. The James Bond Island tour left me breathless and it totally made me fall in love with Thailand. CONS of Thailand: The tiger and elephant excursions are overpriced. It’s an experience you don’t want to miss out on if it’s something you’ve always wanted to do. Be careful that taxi drivers don’t over charge you because you are tourists. TRAVELING WHILE BLACK: I definitely got a lot of stares and quite a few people just wanted pictures with a black person. I was not treated unfairly at all, and I would definitely go back to Thailand.
Thai food is incredible and for a truly authentic experience, I recommend trying street food! In Bangkok there are plenty of stalls, particularly along Khao San Road and Rup Krong Canal where we ate the most street food. Typical dishes include pad Thai, noodles with pork, rice dishes and then sweet treats.
There are also Night Markets which have a variety of dishes on offer.
The best thing about street food is the price. We typically ate for just under ยฃ1 for a dish!
If you would rather dine in restaurants, these are good quality as well. One of my favourites was a place near the temple Wat Pho (the name was in Thai so I canโt remember it). However they had many a variety of Thai dishes and sticky mango rice for dessert which was incredible!
Bangkok is one of the most lively cities in Thailand! It reminds me of being in New York or San Francisco due to the tall sky scrapers and loud city sounds. While I was in Bangkok, I went to to worlds high roof top bar!(https://www.lebua.com/sky-bar) The view is completely breath taking! Next time I go back, I want to visit during the day time. The setting is very romantic, so I recommend going with a sweetheart, fellas…if youโre planning on purposing, this would be the perfect spot! Be prepared to spend between $25-$40 on drinks though. It is expensive, but your paying for the experience.
Keep in mind that once you arrive, they will try to have the tourists go to a different part of the bar, which isnโt the rooftop…so be sure to say you want the rooftop area. There are also two separate menus that they hand out to locals and tourists, so ask for both menus. Take pictures and enjoy the atmosphere!
Bangkok was my least favorite city to visit in Thailand. It does not have that much natural beauty as Phuket and Chiang Mai since it’s really a city, city. But my friends and I still had a great time. Bangkok is SUPER AFFORDABLE. Meals, massages, and housing are super cheap. They have a large shopping center (MBK) in which you can bargain any item you want for a lower cost. Also, the temples in the city are truly incredible and breathtaking. Wat Arun was my favorite. However, remember when you go to temples that you must wear appropriate clothing or you’ll be forced to buy/rent items to cover up.
Nightlife in Bangkok is different than anywhere else I have been. There is literally something to do for any type of traveler. I went on the midnight tuk tuk tour where you ride through the Bangkok traffic and get to eat authentic Pad Thai which was delicious, try fresh fruits and thai desserts, go to the largest flower market in the world and get a midnight temple tour (The temples still must be seen during the daytime, so beautiful). There are so many rooftop bars in Bangkok with amazing views. Another night I went to Patpong and there are so many bars and “shows” that you will not forget! There are ” boy boy”, “girl girl”, and “boy girl” shows going on all night and just be prepared for what your eyes might see lol as these as strip clubs but different than the typical American ones. The bars are all outdoors and its literally a party in the street and the people are so friendly. The were so many poppin bars but the one we stopped at was a gay bar across from the pink panther stripclub in patpong. Nightlife i bangkok can be wild and crazy, adventurous and filled with trying delicious foods or a healthy balance of both but it is definitely a good time!
I took a girlโs trip to Thailand this past May (2018) and it was one of the best places I’ve ever been to. The people are so polite and respectful there it makes you smile to know there are still good human beings out there in the world. One of the cities I stayed in was Bangkok at the Banyan Tree Hotel. The hotel was amazing. Everything was beautiful from the dรฉcor, the lights, the rooms, the rooftop bar and restaurant and the people. We booked a private tour to see the Wat Pho (Temple of the Reclining Buddha, Wat Traimit (Temple of the Golden Buddha), Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha) and the Wat Arun (Temple of the Dawn). I can’t remember the exact price but it was very reasonable especially since we had out own private tour guide with a private vehicle which was all executed by one of the hotel employees i believed named Mr. Woo. We were picked up and dropped back off right in the front of out hotel. The temples are Thailand’s most precious and respected places to visit. The dress code is fully enforced if you plan on visiting. Men must wear long pants and shirts with sleeves (no tank tops. Women must also where long attire such as pants or a long maxi dress and your shoulders have to be covered as well. Also no shoes are allowed in any of the temples. Trust me its well worth it of you are into history and learning different about different cultures. Those Buddhaโs are beyond beautiful and well kept.
We also went to the floating market (which took up an entire day). You are basically on a little narrow boat that floats all through this market which is on the river. They have pictures, food, sculptures, art paintings, drinks etc. that you can enjoy on the ride. I would say this definitely a good experience. You can also visit one of the Elephant Sanctuaryโs. This is a place for rescued elephants that are kept safe and unharmed from humans. Overall thereโs so much more to do in Bangkok but those were just my top things I think you should experience in their country.
Bangkok was definitely memorable! I enjoyed visiting the amazing temples and learning about the history behind them. Bangkok is more of a city life adventure. My sister and I travelled around the city by tuk-tuks, boats and taxi. We stayed in Bangkok at the Novotel (amazing hospitality btw, staff was so attentive and genuinely cared for us) for the beginning of our trip then headed to Phuket which was definitely more relaxing. The views were amazing, I looked around at surreal imagery. The beaches, purple sunsets, and a beautiful skyline. I would recommend Bangkok if youโre looking for adventure and seeing sights, Phuket for relaxation with a bit of party life if you want as well! In Bangkok be aware of tuktuk scams, they will try to overcharge you or bring you to see Thai silk that you donโt need. Always do taxi by the meter regardless which city youโre in.
My most memorable moments from my trip were visiting the Grand Palace, the experience of riding in Bangkok traffic, and the Patong beach. The Grand Palace was breathtaking and exceptionally beautiful. After staying in Bangkok for a few days, we traveled to Phuket. The views were amazing and Patong Beach was stunning! The sunset is shades of purple and pink! Think of cotton candy in the sky.
My sister and I planned this adventure three years ago. We love traveling and exploring other countries and cultures.
Things to be aware of: Bangkok scams i.e. the tuk tuk scams (definitely experience riding in a tuk tuk but just be aware) make sure to exchange your currency into baht, bowing is a greeting and form of respect, dress appropriately when visiting the temples, long pants and T-shirt is fine, and try to visit multiple cities in Thailand. We definitely look forward to returning to Phuket and visiting more islands in Thailand.
This was made famous in the movie ‘The Hangover’ the views were incredible and definitely worth a drink. Drinks were fairly expensive though so will hit your pocket hard!
This was only a 5min walk from where we were staying and the waiters are more than happy to help you decide what to drink based on flavours you like.
They have also recently opened a new bar on the 56th floor which we went to check out – the 56th bar had a more chilled out vibe and was less crowded so we managed to get a seat and enjoy our drink here overlooking Bangkok.
If you’re planning to visit Lebua then make sure you visit both bars :)
Thai food is a pleasant. I never knew the different types of curry but I had the chance to taste and very happy I had that opportunity. Every restaurant is a win win. Also try the Thai ice tea. Itโs delicious. Bangkok is a good place to travel with kids. Plenty of sidewalk space to bring a stroller and use. A couple of restaurants didnโt have US style high chairs at their restaurants but you can work around that. We also took a visit to the Siam Paragon Mall
I wanted to celebrate my 30th birthday abroad. But where to? I wanted the perfect balance of relaxation, learning, reflecting, and turning up for me and my girls. Thailand was a no-brainer! And itโs been on my bucket list for a while, so it was the perfect destination. I chose Bangkok and Phuket, as the cities to explore in Thailand with four of my close girlfriends. There was so much to do there and so little time. If you can, I definitely recommend spending 10-14 days to travel to Thailand, including travel days. On our first full day in Bangkok, we started our morning at 6 a.m. We had a pre-booked tour scheduled to pick us up from our hotel and take us to the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market for local shopping, which is an hour away from the city. The floating market was such a great experience. We visited a coconut sugar farm, went souvenir shopping, and tasted local food from the market. We got back to our hotel at about noon. And next on the agenda was visiting the Grand Palace, which was one of my favorite sight-seeing. I recommend going early in the morning to avoid the crowd. Also, make sure to dress fully clothed, because they will make you purchase cover-ups. After the Grand Palace, we went to the Temple of Reclining Buddha (Wat Pho), which is about an 8-minute walk from the Grand Palace, and only costs $3 (U.S. Dollars)/100 THB (Thailand Baht).
Bangkok Thailand is amazing and a very busy place almost remind us of being in New York City. Thailand is great when it comes to the variety of foods and they are seasoned to perfection. Our favorite is the Pad Thai and Mango sticky rice. We love seafood and there are endless amounts of all you can eat seafood BBQ resturants. The seafood BBQ restaurants are set up like a buffet with all fresh seafood from crabs, fish, scallops, clams, mussels, oysters, crab sticks, blood cockles, chicken, and live prawns. They have sides to choose from like fried rice, pasta, sushi, and dessert. They give you a grill to cook the food at your table and there is no time limit on the amount of food you want to cook and eat. They even have spices to season your food and free drinks and for a very low price of 9-10 US dollars per person. The food is so fresh the prawns are still swimming in the water and you catch them and place them on ice before cooking them. The street food is very cheap less than 2 US dollars depending on the dish and many pasta dishes contain shrimp, chicken, or tofu whatever you prefer. There are many American food chains there as well for those that begin to miss the food from back home but the menu even at McDonald’s can be slightly different with items you may have never seen before like fried chicken and rice. Thailand is at the top of our list when it comes to the best food while being in a Asian countries.
You can watch us cook Thai food while in Thailand or view the seafood BBQ on our YouTube channel.

Bangkok was an amazing assault on all your senses, the vibe of the city is cool, the food is delicious and you canโt beat the affordability of everything there. I spent 3 busy days exploring the temples, palaces, the train and floating markets and it was simply amazing. If youโre looking for travel adventures, something new to experience and see Thailand has a lot to offer. Your money goes a long way, so shopping should definitely be on your list. We had excellent tour guides who went above and beyond to make sure we had the best experience. We used Buffalo Tours for our entire Thailand visit, including Bangkok and Chiang Mai. The tour guides and hotel staffs were very courteous and respectful, I didnโt run into any issues traveling while black there. However, Bangkok Airways is a whole different story. They changed the luggage requirements on us basically while standing in line and we ended paying over $200 USD just to get our luggage on the plane. I would definitely recommend traveling light while I. Asia, especially if youโre flying. Other than the airport issues, we had no problems in Bangkok. I would definitely recommend a visit there.
Bangkok is a city but also allows you to dive into it’s culture without necessarily going too far. A two in one. I stayed in the city but khao san road is typically where most back packers are and you do get to meet lot’s of people and share stories/ find out best places to go.
Places to go are quite endless especially if you’re into architecture from the reclining Buddha at Wat Pho, to weekend market Chatuchak and there are so many other temples to see and are all very picturesque so trust if you don’t go to all best believe one will still be very worth your while. Lumpini park is a great place to decompress and take a walk, think central park it’s as big. The famous floating markets are a must go. There’s quite a few next to the city which will all give you the same experience just be sure to make sure they’re open because there are weird schedules.
There are as many rooftops as you can count in Bangkok and the view is breathtaking. The views from Vertigo Moon Bar was absolutely stunning. It’s very dressy so impress. Get a thai massage, don’t think about it just dooooo it!!!! MOde of transportain is cabs and they have meters but be sure they use them most of them try to wiggle around it. even though it’s a meter it’s very cheap so still very afordable. For the fun of it try a tuk tuk atleast once hahahahahah best ride especially at night.
Bangkok has a very decent nightlife so check out the clubs and most certainly the food. The ebst padthai in life is at mahachai road. You will never look at it thesame. Please respect the culture especially at the temples and dress appropriately, besides that live your best Thai life.
Thailand was great, i would say if you are a city person bangkok is great for you. I only spent a week in bangkok before flying to khoa lak , near phuket. I had a better experience there as i had the best spa treatment the hotels are amazing and it feels more relaxing to me. For a party animal i would say bangkok. There are some really good bargain in the market too and everyone seems lovely there.
I recently visited Bangkok while on a tour through Thailand. It is a very loud and bustling city. A lot of culture throughout. It is definitely crowded and busy, however very affordable to get around. My mode of transportation was a taxi and tuk tuk. A tuk tuk can cost $10 USD at the most. I visited Chinatown, the Chatuchek weekend market, Lumphini park, and khao San road. Be careful of tuk tuk scams, where the driver asks if he can make a stop first. This is only to get you to spend more money at any local shop that theyโve linked up with. Thai food is amazing. I was a little hesitant to try street food, especially if I couldnโt identify the meat but their well known Mango sticky rice is awesome. Bangkok was always jumping no matter the time of day, I recommend it if youโre looking for something affordable and upbeat!
Stayed at the Prince Palace Hotel for 3 nights. Purchased tour to Damnoen Saduak floating market from Klook for $21. Went to a coconut farm (the coconut candy was delicious), shopped, ate local food, and took photos with a yellow python and baby lemur. Only had a chance to see the Grand palace. All of the details and colors had me in awe of those buildings. Enjoyed the next day at safari world. Drove through an animal enclosure, saw animals doing tricks, and spent 1 hr feeding birds. During the night, I rode a tuk tuk to Koh San Road. Shopped, ate street food, and tried a scorpion (BBQ seasoning on it and chewy). I needed a few more days in Bangkok.
Bangkok has been by far, one of my favorite cites. There is so much I can cover on this city alone, but the first question any travels ask is, what we can do there. Here is small guide some of my favorite activities in Bangkok. Keep in mind that a many of the temples have a dress code (cover your shoulders and knees.)
ยท Grand palace: inside itโs a beautiful and sparkling cite. There is a collection of temples, you will be able to see the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (one of Thailandโs most significant religious sight). Watch out for scam tours, if you really would like one negotiate the price. You can easily spend 3 hours here.
Address: Na Phra Lan Rd.
Hours: Daily 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Cost: 250 baht
ยท The national museum: another great landmark in Bangkok, makes sure to check opening hours before going.
Address: Na Phrathat Rd.
Hours: Wednesday through Sunday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Cost: 200 baht
ยท Jim Thompson House: interesting and relaxing, the house belonged to a spy who later turned into a textile manufacture, one day disappeared and was never found. I got to see the traditional way of making silk. The grounds are beautiful and there plenty of art work to admire. The entry ticket comes with an English speaking tour guide.
Address: Soi Kasem San 2, Rama I Rd.
Hours: Daily 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Cost: 100 baht
ยท Take the public river ferries to get a great view of the city at a different angle. The ferry ticket was relative cheap and easy to find. The ferry travel up and down Chao Phraya River.
ยท Markets: one of the best markets is in Chinatown. You can eat and refresh yourself. Buy souvenirs or honestly anything you want.
Tip: take a Tuk Tuk to get around in the city. If the driver donโt speak English show them the directions on your phone, ALWAYS negotiate the price. If too expensive walk away and they will say okay fine and take you for that price, if your hotel is located fairly central do everything you want to do I recommend not paying more than 250 baht.
While in Bangkok I stayed at the Prince Theater Heritage Stay and it was so adorable! This was a loft style remodeled old theater! It was super clean, affordable and well decorated. The cost was very affordable and it came with a free compliment breakfast for two!!! The cost for the hotel was 68.00 usd. We additionally took a Grab car to the Floating Market. The Market is 2000.00 THB but barter with them as we made the mistake for aging this over priced price instead of later realizing that we over paid.
I spent a weekend in Bangkok while traveling for work and had an amazing time!
We bought a package deal while there that included a trip to Damnoen floating market, temple visits and an elephant ride. Highly recommend. The Beer House is an excellent choice for great food with the added bonus of live local entertainment. High energy and lots of fun. And of course, good beer options. Wish I had more time to spend in Bangkok and hope to go back.
Bangkok is an amazing place to visit and it is so affordable!
Make sure to visit the beautiful temples the city has to offer. Get an entire day pass for the boats that get you around the temples that way you donโt have to pay everytime you hop on. Make sure that when you visit the temples you cover your shoulders and legs or you will be forced to buy shirts and pants before getting in.
Visit the floating market for an amazing experience. The market offers everything from food, clothes, souvenirs and everything you could think of. Make sure you take advantage of Thai massages for as little as SIX American dollars!!! That will really help you feel relaxed.
Please donโt spend crazy amount of money eating inside your hotel when the city offers amazing Thai food for much less all over.
Thailand was a great trip, we started off in Bangkok and explored for a couple of days before seeing the rest of the country and allowing ourselves to get our bodies on their time zone after travelling for 23hrs from Toronto, Canada. One thing to be mindful for is the grand hustle, of the Tuk Tuk drivers, which most of them are connected to some sort of tailor to try and get you to get a suit mae.. I must say the hustle is REAL. They normally get ppl with their cheap prices for transportation.
Hello My name Is StClair and I’m here to tell you about my most recent trip to Bangkok Thailand. I will like to start off by saying its a beautiful place to go with many beautiful views and activities not in the normal. Such as feeding Tigers…feeding Elephants and becoming acquainted with many other exotic animals. The natives are over all accomidating and polite the only time they are aggressive when it comes to selling you something or getting a service. I will suggest going through your hotel for any services , tours , etc just so you wont feel like you’re getting bamboozled. All in all its definitely a great city to visit and suggest to add it to your travel list
I’m Lis from Baltimore. I spent a weekend in Bangkok for a short holiday trip aside from seeing the temples in the day, Bangkok also comes alive at night at any day of the week. Best to do it with Bangkok nightlife tours as they really know their way around the City! Hands down to these guys, they really know how to have fun in Bangkok. If you’re looking for a good time and have the best parties in Bangkok make sure to hit these guys up!
I highly recommend this for solo and group travelers, its away to get your money worth. Also its more convenient and safe to have these guys as hosts who knows the city well to avoid scammers/ over prices in the streets and clubs.
Bangkok is one of a kind. I was there during the new year and wow. We stayed in an Airbnb near Central Plaza. We felt like we were close to everything. There is so much to do, SO many people, and so much to see. You could really do a whole trip there. You have access to everything and getting around is fairly easy. My only gripe is how the taxi drivers do all they can to get over on you. A lot of them refused to use the meter and when we would ask, they would tell us to get out the car….CRAZY! There were even times when it took us over an hour to get a taxi to stop for us. We bought tickets to a new year party and we missed it because it took us so long to get a cab. Our driver eventually told us to get out and walk if we wanted to at least not be in the car during the countdown. The food in thailand is AMAZING. If you have a diverse pallet, you will love it here. However, if spice is not your thing, you have to be careful.
Thailand magical …me and my husband and best friend had time of our life … first thing was the Floating Market which was pretty cheap and we visit the Grand Palace and Wat Arun . One thing we learned the hard way lol ..make sure you wear appropriate clothing to go the the palace- if not the guard won’t let you in…but they sold skirts and scarf outside of the temple so were able to go back in lol.
The tuk tuk which is a another way if transportation they have , is a most cause its so fun. We got to see some elephant up close..such gentle and sweet creatures..I felt so bless to be able to go to Thailand..I will definitely go back.
Bangkok was crazy. Had so much things to do one could not get bored while in Bangkok. We stayed at the Centara Grand hotel next to the plaza mall which made it easy to do a little “damn it I forgot…” Items and the hotel employees were so helpful in guiding us on how to get around. We bought temple tour tickets through Get your guide which was very affordable. Dress decent, cover your knees and shoulders. Carry a scarf if you’d rather not ruin your outfit, that’s what I did for my jumpsuit. At night we did some street food shopping and wow it was endless!!!! I thank God for a strong stomach! Later we went to the Sky Bar At Lebua where they filmed Hangover II. The drinks were kind of pricey but we teamed with a couple of girls I had met from the hotel they were from New York and we bought a bottle and shared it in between #hustleorbehustled. A Thai guy at the bar thought we were beautiful and ended buying all of us food ? #LookatGod don’t waste an opportunity for free food sis. Later we took a taxi back to the hotel and asked the taxi man to take us to a club we went to Mixx which played American music hip hop and all that.we had an amazing night in Bangkok I’d definitely recommend it for anyone and don’t skip the temple tours . The next day we left Bangkok for Ayuthaya
Bangkok is without a doubt one of my most favorite places in the world! There is so much to do and a lot to see. I’ve been to Bangkok twice in the past few years and both times I stayed at a hotel (the second time a hotel across from the Ratchada Night Market). Your trip to Bangkok would not be complete without visiting Wat Pho (the temple of the Reclining Buddah), the Grand Palace, the Ratchada Night Market and the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. All these activities are family friendly and if you have kids (or are looking for a fun way to move around) then I definitely recommend going on an Elephant Ride which is convenient located by the Floating Market (where they also provide tours of the market in a small and narrow gondola kind of boat). My family and I also went on a short two day trip to Phuket to enjoy some time away from the city and at the beach. We stayed at The Westin Siray Bay Resort & Spa, which was amazing to say the least. We never even thought about leaving the hotel, but they did offer some activities both inside and out of the resort (elephant rides.. snorkel tours etc.). However, I have to say that my most rememberable experience was when we went to see the Calypso Cabaret Show. This show is among the most popular in Bangkok so buying your tickets way ahead of time is key! It was a great way to end our trip, and I promise that you won’t be disappointed!
There is plenty of dope things to do in Bangkok! I traveled to Thailand solo, and during my time in Bangkok I use only public transportation and got around to all the sites just fine. Spent a day shopping at Chatuchak weekend market where I found some deals on great local finds, and then relaxed and took in the beautiful sites in the park. Getting around to all the temples was a breeze, but you will have to use the boat taxis if you want to see them all. It is definitely worth it to see them all! Each temple has its own unique beautiful and provide a place of tranquility. My favorite was Wat Arun. I also ventured out one evening to Soi Cowboy in one of Thailand’s red light districts. This was an interesting experience that I throughly enjoyed even though I just people watched (the lady boys are beautiful). Lol. Overall, Bangkok is a city I truly enjoyed and will hopefully return to one day. Loved it!
Bangkok is by far one of the busiest and craziest cities I have ever been to. My family and I visited Thailand in January 2013 so certain things may have changed with time, but I am sure that the general idea is still the same.
The first thing you notice when you arrive in Bangkok is the traffic – it is crazy and traffic doesn’t stop. I mean at 2a.m. there are still cars bustling and taxis moving around , and every single one is full !! Furthermore, there seem to be no set traffic laws in Thailand. If there are, no one really follows them , but some how no one gets into an accident and no one hoots at other drivers . (This really is different compared to other Asian countries where traffic is about as insane but everyone is hooting at each other). Eitherway, traffic is still a mess. The cheapest way to get around Thailand is by the Tuk-Tuks (3 wheeled cabs). These guys sift through traffic with an incomparable skill and their prices are usually lower than the actual taxi cabs. However, if you are planning on travelling for over 30mins (more than 15kms) I would suggest an actual cab.
The street markets in Bangkok are amazing . There is so much variety !! The vendors basically work in shifts throughout the. During midday there are vendors selling fruits and vegetables. Around 5pm they pack up and are replaced by vendors who typically retail souvenirs, gadgets and some questionable items. You will still be able to buy food – there are some interesting choices like locusts, cockroaches, and an assortment of insects. After about 10pm these vendors are replaced by roadside bars ! the coolest thing ever .
*Things to do*
– Visit the Floating Market
– Visit the Golden Temple
– Giant Golden Buddha
– Giant Swing
Overall Bangkok has a lot to offer with regards to the food scene and nightlife. So if these are your interests then I really do suggest checking this city out. Personally, I found the city too busy and noisy to ever consider it romantic and relaxing. You would rather travel to Phuket for that.
Thailand is a crazy Asian city. Grimey, busy, crowded, all of the thrills of a major city. What Thailand is not short of is food. Food is everywhere. If you can find a local that can steer you in the right direction you will be in for some good eats at some even cheaper prices. I would say stay away from the very touristy areas, as their food isn’t as good.
On my first day there I took a cooking class at Silom Cooking School, my big spend of $29USD, and it was well worth it. While the market tour aspect was quite lack luster, the class itself was great. We made 5 dishes, which included Green curry from scratch, and we left with a cook book and chopsticks as parting gifts.
On day 2, I walked through China Town and the street food scene was epic. You can get anything there. But I would say be mindful of eating at any and every place because it is just open air. So go with your gut here, if it doesn’t look safe, pass and find somewhere else. There is no shortage of options.
Day 3, I found myself in Ladmayom Floating Market. My stomach gave me a standing ovation for this decision. You can find any meat on a stick, fresh fruit, dumplings, noodles, anything to make your tummy happy.
I celebrated my 24th birthday in Bangkok and it was one of my favorite destinations to visit yet. I stayed in an Airbnb in Sukhumvit that costed a total of $440 for 6 nights. Airbnbs in Bangkok are super affordable. Many airbnbs/ hotels in Bangkok have awesome amenities like infinity pools and gyms. Through research, I found that Sukhumvit and Khao San/Banglamphu are the best areas to stay in Bangkok. Even though Khao San is where the main nightlife was, I chose to stay in Sukhumvit because it was easier to access public transportation to get to the popular tourist destinations from that area. (However, it is easy to get around Bangkok through train, taxis and even Uber.) My favorite places to eat were Roast in the Commons and Sit and Wonder. These restaurants put the Thai food in New York to shame. Sit and Wonder had a lot of the common thai dishes such as curry, noodle based dishes and rice based dishes. Roast had a wide range of dishes such as roasted chicken and steak. Thailand is well known for itsโ street food so be sure to stop by a mango sticky rice cart when you visit. Street food can be found at outdoor markets as well as on the main nightlife street, Khao San Road. A great way to spend the day in Bangkok is by finding a nice rooftop to grab drinks. The Octave rooftop quickly became my go to. It has a beautiful view of Bangkok and a great happy hour deal. Also, be sure to visit the spa will in Bangkok. The Asian Herb Association is the spa I visited. It has multiple locations, great customer service and affordable package deals. For the art lovers, the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre has very unique contemporary art. Bangkok is well-known for itsโ floating markets and temples. The Wat Pho, also known as the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, was the most memorable for me. In regards to floating markets, I visited the Damnoen Saduak floating market through a tour company called Bangkok Best Travel. The tour was $167 and included petting tigers, bathing elephants and going to the floating market. The tour was all day and is a great option if you donโt want to worry about figuring out transportation. Lastly, Khao San Road is the long strip of popular bars and clubs in Bangkok. It is basically a huge block party. I recommend grabbing a mango margarita the bar called The One and dancing the night away! I hope this review was helpful. If you have any further questions, donโt hesitate to reach out to me on Instagram @iamsiennachristine :)
When you ask people to name one place in Thailand they always start with “Bangkok”…. no doubt its a hot and popping city but that city life isn’t for everyone. I personally don’t like Bangkok because of the traffic, crowded streets, and smog but I can’t pretend like the city doesn’t have a lot to offer. There’s all types of crazy restaurants with cool themes like the one I went to where I wore a unicorn onesy and drank unicorn themed drinks with unicorn themed food. Sure, it’s corny, but it’s a story ;-) The food in Bangkok didn’t stand out as being something that I couldn’t get in other parts of Asia but the night life was definitely superior to other popular places like Chiang Mai. Bangkok is an experience worth having but not one that I’m putting back on the list of places to visit any time soon.
Thailand is such a large country with a lot to offer. However, Bangkok is a city that is a kind of itโs own. While in Bangkok make it your business to play a real life game of temple run. There are a bunch of temples to see that will take your breathe way. The detail, architectural make up and holy aura bring a feeling of peace that you canโt quiet explain. The temples are very sacred and demand respect, so keep that in mind when visiting. There are also many stores to shop at for detailed suits for men; so if you are in the market for a suit and plan on visiting Bangkok check out what they have to offer. While in Bangkok I stayed at Grande Centre Point Terminal 21, this hotel had a lot to offer. Iโd advise you google it. They have a very nice infinity pool, solid gym and a large shopping center attached to the hotel. The lobby is quite sharp and will give you the feel of quality from the minute you walk in. Enjoy Bangkok, but donโt end up like the fellas in Hangover…HaHa!!
I could be wrong, but you really only need a day or two in Bangkok. Itโs a busy city full of culture and beautiful temples. Khao San Road is worth checking out. Lots of shopping, street food (fried insects ?), bars, and clubs. Reclining Bhudda is very cool to see too. The things is huge!!
Purchased a temple tour through Viator which included a 3 hour tour to several different temples. It was extremely hot outside. I traveled in April so it was 95ish but felt like 108 degrees. The temples were really beautiful. It was nice to see a different culture.
I love Bangkok because itโs the city of Thailand. Tall buildings, busy streets, public transportation, hustlers, and even infinity pools! I am a city girl and I prefer cities over beaches. Bangkok gave me what I needed out of Thailand since I also visited Phuket. You can get chicken and rice for $1.50 and quirky nice hotels for under $100 talking about budgeting.
Shopping is a must. You can get high thread count sheets for 10 and 20 USD, nice clothing and shoes for 100-500 bahts. Luxury shopping isnโt good, things are more expensive than in the U.S. There are many temples to visit, I recommend using Tuk Tukโs and scooters as they can weave in and out of traffic. Itโs a very busy and a lot of traffic jams.
When visiting the temples make sure your arms and most of all, your legs are covered or else they will not let you in and screw their face at you haha. You are able to see animals like tigers and elephants without going to Phuket, but you will have to travel at least an hour. There are a ton of cuisines to try, I did not try any bugs, I was not that daring. There is local street food (not the cleanest preparation) and 5 star restaurant. I really loved the mix between the two. If youโre into quirky foods as I am, try the Unicorn Cafe. There is pastel pasta and pastel drinks with a beautiful unicorn decor. You can even dine in a unicorn suit. Bangkok is a wonderful destination for any budget. #Abventurous

As with most destinations, locals make their money from tourists. Haggle and negotiate all prices! Many people objectives is so get over on tourist. They love to ask โwhere you are from?โ, if you say U.S. they will assume that you are rich and inflate their prices. I told them I was from Thailand. I caught on during my third day visiting out of five days.
A tuk tuk should cost no MORE than 20 bahts. I was being charged 200 bahts and paying because it was still cheap to me. I was speaking to a friendly clerk at my hotel and I was informed that they were raising prices and to let them know that I know itโs only 20 bahts. I followed his advice and was paying less and haggling everything before handing over my money.
The nightlife in Thailand was on point! Go to patong beach and you will find a strip of clubs, bars and even hookah lounges. Most have free entry as well as one free drink coupons at the door. We club hopped all night and found some really good spots playing good hip hop music.
I considered Bangkok as the New York of Thailand. It is a very busy city with lots to see and do. You have your choice of visiting temples such as Grand Palace, and Wat Pho. Then you have the option of experiencing the various floating markets, shopping malls, and a booming nightlife. While there are plenty of things to do in Bangkok, in my opinion, you donโt need to stay there too many days.
Bangkok is a fast paced city that is full of culture. The flight to Bangkok (1 layover in Paris) was less than 800$ and the hotels are relatively inexpensive. We stayed at the Banyan Tree Bangkok which is in the middle of the city with a 5 star restaurant on the rooftop of the hotel. The view at night is beautiful! We visited the Grand Palace Temple which is an extremely busy area but well worth the visit. We went in May and the climate was a bit hotter than expected so be prepared for heat if you’re traveling around that time of year. There are many independent locations to get a relaxing massage or just to eat and get souvs!
The local food is delicious and very very cheap! You will be amazed what you will get for โฌ1. I almost eat pad Thai every day?. Get ready to gain some weight in Thailand.
If you are going to Bangkok to relax, I recommed that you get a Thai message everyday you are in the city. The Thai massage is different than any other i have experienced. And I mean that in a good way. They are dirt cheap and can be a perfect start or ending to your day.
Cheap Cheap Cheap!!! lol The cheapest place I’ve ever been. We went with the tour group affordable Asia. Everything was planned for us. See blow for the details of our tour in Bangkok.

(Day 2): Bangkok
Bangkok is a city of gleaming modernity firmly rooted in ancient Buddhist tradition and beliefs. After breakfast, we visit the Temple of Golden Buddha which is home to the worldโs largest solid gold Buddha statue. A magnificent piece of history not to be missed, the seated Buddha measures 10 feet high, weighs over 5 tons, and is worth an estimated $14m. Stroll through one of Bangkokโฒs largest Flower Markets at Paklong Talat. Continue to visit the oldest temple, the Temple of Reclining Buddha (Wat Pho). After enjoying a local Thai buffet lunch, we have the chance to visit the Gemโฒs Factory & Thai silk. Relax at the hotel for the rest of the evening or join our optional Thai Dinner and classical dance show.
(Day 3): Bangkok
Explore Bangkok on your own or join the optional tour The Landmark of Bangkok Tour & Boat Ride along the River of the King. ? Step into the old Kingdom of Siam at the Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, visiting the compound of ceremonial halls, guilded spires, and ornate buildings. ?The ancient city’s defining landmark since 1782. ?the palace became the centerpiece of Thai capital called Krungthep (City of Angels), known outside Thailand as Bangkok. ?It was King Mongkut (Rama IV) who ruled from this palace, expanded trade with the West and was romanticizied in the musical “The Kind and I”. ?
Afterwards, board a motor boat to meander through the winding waterway along the Chaopraya river and canal on Thonburi side, overlooking Wat Arun, the Temple of the Dawn and continue to a local Thai restaurant where we will enjoy lunch. ?
After lunch, continue to the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall (Marble Hall) which was built of imported white Carrara marble. ?Originally intended for the use of King Rama V (Prince Chulalongkorn from the King and I), the building wasn’t finished until the reign of his son, King Rama VI, in 1915. ?Inside the Marble Hall, you will enjoy “The Art of the Kingdom” exhibition which contains exotic and unique Thai art created by local artisans under Royal partonage of HM Queen Sirikit. ?This modern palace blends Western Renaissance architecture with ancient Thai design. ?
** For those joining our Landmark of Bangkok Tour & Boat Ride optional excursion – sleeveless tops and short skirts are not allowed in the Marble Hall – both women and men must wear clothing that covers your ankles and shoulders.
(Day 4): Bangkok
Enjoy today free at leisure or join the optional Floating Market, River Kwai, Elephant Trekking and Bamboo Rafting Tour. Ride a long-tailed speed boat along the canals at the Damnern Saduak Floating Market, where the timeless lifestyle of native Thai people can be observed. Fruits, spices, souvenirs and more can all be found along the way. Afterwards, we head to Kanchanaburi to visit the War Cemetery and the Bridge over River Kwai. In 1943, thousands of Allied Prisoners of War (POW) and Asian laborers worked on the Death Railway under the imperial Japanese army in order to construct part of the 415 km long Burma-Thailand railway. After lunch at local restaurant, we visit the famous Elephant Camp to see how talented these elephants are. Experience a close-up encounter with baby elephants and ride on an elephantโฒs back for a 30 minute forest trek. Afterwards, we board small bamboo rafts and float along the Kwai River. Finish the exciting day and return back to Bankok in the evening.
Thailand by far was the cheapest trip Iโve taken. Not only was the flight there inexpensive logging was cheap also. I canโt remember what hotel I stayed in but it was nice and breakfast was included for less than $60 a night. The activities on the other hand were well priced. Tours were about the same you would pay anywhere. But the Food was cheap and good
Stayed 12 days. I found it easier to stay at Marriott brand hotels at a really affordable price if book in advance. The affordable domestic flight i used to get across the country was Ryanair. I purchase the airline tickets about 30 plus days advance and only paid $17 usd each way. Areas not far enough to take a plane should be traveled by local taxi. The cart taxis are at times quadruple the price and are everywhere but only for a good one time experience. Save money by taking a local yellow taxi. I recommend James Bond Island to all that visit Thailand. I also found it much much cheaper to take a taxi to many tours to cut cost.
This review is slightly biased because we unfortunately travelled during the rainy season… And when it rains; IT RAINS! However; we did attempt to view the city and explore what it had to offer… But in all honesty; we found a lot of it a bit ‘take it or leave it’. You see; a part of the problem is that if; like us, you have visited other Southeast Asian countries before heading to Thailand (as we did) then some things become a bit same old same old… I mean; we’d already seen the temples of Kuala Lumpur and Siem Reap; so by the time we arrived in Bangkok it was a bit ‘Wots all the fuss about’? (Excuse the cheesy pun)… However; I would say that if you like that sort of thing then it’s definitely for you! We were staying in a 5* resort, so for the days we had to stay in due to rain, we had little choice but to frequent either the 7/11 across the road (their ready meals BANG) or order room services. Whilst SOME aspects of Bangkok are cheap; ie, street food; it is fast becoming one of the world’s cosmopolitan “go to” cities; and the price for a lot of things reflect this. For instance; we were astounded to find that tattoos were MORE expensive here than in London.
With all that being said; the highlight of this trip was was visiting PatPong night market… It’s an amazing experience where you can buy everything from knockoff designer to traditional garb.
We definitely don’t feel as though we got to experience Bangkok in it’s glory due to the weather; so we are going to visit again this year in sunnier climates to get a thorough feel for the city.
BANGKOK is an incredible city. Fast paced but still intact with the Thai culture. Bangkok is very much like any western city. Big shopping malls, fast food restaurants, big fancy buildings. But you still feel like your in Thailand. The Thai people donโt let you forget that your still in Southeast Asia. Itโs extremely hot and a lot of people.
I went to Thailand for my birthday May 2015, I stayed in downtown Bangkok for 3 days and spent another 3 in Hua Hin, I decided to stay in Hua Hin because it was easy getting there than it would have been getting to Phuket. Itโs a 5 hour bus ride to the island so you can escape the city a little bit, there are some really nice bed and breakfast locations close to the beach where you can stay and enjoy the beach life. Definitely bring some spending cash for clothing, you can get a lot of custom made clothes for a very good price, make sure you find a tailor (they are everywhere) when you first get there so you can get your clothes in time. Go pet a tiger at the tiger sanctuary … donโt let angry people steal your joy by telling you itโs not right. The leaning Buddha is at the war Arun temple and makes for great pics. Go to the floating market for some hand made gifts to take back home to your boss and make sure you negotiate. Go to centralworld mall for all your other shopping, thereโs also another mall for electronics as well. Make sure you tip well
sooo Bangkok…. the street food was so cheap and good. i could fill myself up for $3 U.S. I tried Mango sticky rice and fell in love . I have a lot of food allergies so i had to be very careful because they put peanuts on just about everything . We were lucky enough to arrive while they were celebrating the Chinese New Year and outside of the MBK mall they had a full on food court we stayed for about a hour or maybe even more just sampling everything . Oh yeah the Thai food can be very spicy!!! we also went to JJ Green night market they have great food as well.
The food in Thailand is UNBELIEVABLE! I don’t think I could ever get bored of eating Thai food. And it helped that it was super cheap as well! When we first got to Thailand we had a meal in one of their malls and we were pleasantly surprised how affordable it was UNTIL we tried the street food and realised that the food was a fraction of the price and even tastier. Honestly please don’t be afraid to try the street food. I didn’t get an upset stomach once and I actually preferred it to a lot of the dishes that they served in the restaurants.
One of my favourite things to eat in Thailand was the mango with sticky rice, a delicacy and I could see why. Towards the end of the trip I was ordering it with every meal!
I spent my 25th birthday (New Years Eve) in Bangkok and I had the best time. The weather was great and the people where awesome and nice. It was super easy to find activities to do. I could find tours near my hotel and throughout the marketplace. The best one was going to bathe and ride the elephants. They food was good they had American style food but I enjoyed eating Thai food. I was able to see some of the temples and go to the weekend market (great shopping spot). Bangkok night life was fun when they block off the streets at night and people part in the streets from one bar to the next without thinking of a car hitting you. Overall Bangkok was a good time.
When I arrived in Bangkok, it was at the end of our vacation in Thailand so we couldn’t do much.. We visited temples and tasted food. I was disappointed by markets we wanted the huge night market chatuchak market and it only opens Wednesdays…. Otherwise u can visit other nights markets, that what we did and prices are cheap for clothes and shoes shopping. Massage is very cheap too and relaxing. Food is cheap and so good. Bangkok is a great city, way cheaper that Phuket. The nightlife is wow too but always traffic… so don’t be in a hurry.
First when I came to Bangkok I didnโt know if I love it or hate it. The streets are very dirty and smelly, but when the time passes by you start to adore Bangkok. There are so many things you can do. I have visited many temples not far from each other.( Must see: Golden palace – entrance 500 baht, Wat Pho-100 baht, Wat Arun-100 baht, Golden mount-100 baht.) The taxi driver drove us to the tour for 1200 baht (but you can make it much lower).
Also, donโt forget to visit sky bar at Lebua State Tower (famous for The Hangover movie). Prices are a little bit high but the city view is worth every penny.
For accommodation I suggest Prime hotel central station – 4 star hotel with very clean rooms, decent staff and the most important, the location was close to everything.
Bangkok was such a great city. There are numerous temples to visit. The food as well as street food is delicious. The public transportation system is cheap and easy to navigate around. Be sure to do the Damneon Saduak floating market and elephant ride at Elephant Camp. Also, ride a tuk tuk!
Bangkok is amazing and it is one of those places where I NEED to go visit again, there were too many things I missed out on or did not get to do! I was there for a couple days, so we packed in a lot of stuff in those days. One day we did a whole tour of all of the temples. We ended up paying a taxi guy to take us around, which was very very cheap but with the caveat that we had to visit two shops (he’s basically sponsored by the shops). It wasn’t as bad as you think, the first one was just a jewelry shop with a souvenir section, so we got to do all of our souvenirs shopping, and the second was a tailor shop where we spent a minute in. But the temples are beautiful and gorgeous, get a real good feel of the culture.
Another thing to do in Bangkok is visit all the malls! Malls were HUGE and had a lot of stuff. I loved seeing all of the fancy cars in the Siam Paragon, first time seeing a Bugatti in real life! And then another one of the malls has a lot of stores selling clothes souvenirs etc for very cheap! So great for shopping.
Finally my favorite part was Khao San Road, if you are looking for nightlife this is Bangkokโs heart of tourist nightlife! Bars everywhere with cheap drinks, buckets of alcohol beverages, street food everywhere! Lots of fun.
Thai food is pretty solid and itโs cheap. You can get full meals for $2-$5. Lots of fried rice/ different curries. Everything is flavorful and can come really spicy if requested. The only thing I would say is that the portions arenโt that big so you may have to order 2 servings to fill you up. There really isnโt a Thai breakfast so most places will have American options for breakfast. Omelettes/ bread/ meat
When visiting Thailand. Bangkok is a must. Although you don’t really need too much time there. I spent 2 days in Bangkok before I ventured around Thailand and needless to say there was soo much going on!
As everyone who’s ever visited Thailand will say, make sure you ride a tuk tuk! I only rode a tuk tuk once when I needed to get to the grand palace which is a BEAUTIFUL temple that is a must see. If you’re more of an adventurer like I am (not really lol). I rode on the back of a motorbike to get from the station into the famous Khao San road.
The city is quite smelly. Kind of reminds me of back home in the Philippines. The roads are dirty but it is how you experience Thailand in full swing! When staying in Bangkok make sure to also visit the sky bar and all the spots made famous by The Hangover. Thailand is a very cheap place to see and you can buy so much with so little, don’t forget to haggle the prices for an even BETTER deal.
Bangkok Thailand is just one of those places you must visit when you start travelling. It pushes you to get iut of your comfort zone and experience a culture so different from yours. I loved my stay, the floating market was a one of a kind experience, The grand palace was my favorite thing to do and everything is nice and cheap over there so your money definitely stretches.
Bangkok was big and busy and reminded me of New York City. We visited the Grand Palace and Wat Pho, the Temple of the Reclining Buddha. I enjoyed learning about Buddhism and Thai culture from our great tour guide. We traveled south to Koh Samui for a few days and although it was raining and cloudy, it was still easy to find beauty in the island. Next was one night in Khao Sok. I was pleasantly surprised with what this natural reserve had to offer. There were beautiful mountains and rainforest everywhere and while on our canoeing trip, monkeys came up to us and said hi! I was a bit nervous, because they were very close and have been known to snatch cameras and other belongings away from tourists. It was definitely a highlight.
Bangkok was a great experience right from the food to the night life. I stayed at the Lebua state tower hotel on the 52nd floor the view was truly amazing but I wouldn’t recommend it for people afraid of heights. The hotel had its own rooftop bar with events so for some, there was no reason to leave the hotel in search of night life. The people in the hotel knew all the great spots for partying so we went from 1 party to another every night. The food in Bangkok was so tasty and dirt cheap. We spent time visiting some Temples but after a while got bored because everything kinda looked the same. Transportation within the city or Bangkok was dirt cheap but the second it has anything to do with going or coming from the airport, they decide to rip you off.
Bangkok itโs the perfect place to start your tri in Thailand if you looking for some temple to visit , Bangkok have more the 300 hundreds temples and some of that are just really amazing , like Wat Pho where you can see the Recycling Buddha, you can visit the Royal Palace wich is huge and it will take you one day to visit , and after that you can just relax with a foot massage before to et ready for the crazy night life in Khao San Road
I have been to 11 different countries and this place is at the top of my list. From the Thai food (which I eat all time now) which was really good, to th beaches this place is beautiful. I stayed in Bangkok for 5 days and Phuket for two days. Itโs very cheap out there.. I believe 1 US dollars is $43 out there. I told my boyfriend I want to go back again next year..We meet a cab driving who was great and we use him for all our rides. We even gave him a nice amount of money before we left.. We visit the Tiger world. We got up close with different size tigers. The large tiger even got on my back.. I did a elephant ride on the beach. It was beautiful and the weather was nice. Not to many people English out there but that was ok cause they were so nice to us. A lot of bugs. The taxi cars are pretty cool, but be carful cause you can fall off :-)
