We visited Lake Atitlan in August 2026. We spent 3 days at the lake and that’s about enough time. I recommend ending your time in Guatemala here as it’s a nice way to slow down after all the more adventurous things to do in Guatemala. We stayed at a B&B called Jenna’s River B&B and the room is a Yurt. It’s in
panajachel, but it not in the downtown so it’s quiet. We easily caught a tuk tuk for 15QCs pp to the docks to catch a lancha. Out of all the towns around the lake San Juan is my favorite. It has culture, food and history. We had a guide who took us to a chocolatier, beehive and women’s weaving cooperative and you learn from Mayan descendants whose families have done it for years. Pricing is low and you can negotiate. You get to hear and see the people make the items. There is color and culture every where. Also the Atitlan Nature Preserve is a worthwhile visit for the butterfly sanctuary and the Nature Walk and it’s only $10.50 usd to get in. This trip was one for the books.
