So being from California I knew it would be a culture shock coming up here…We would only come up here during the winter to Santa’s Village or to go to Big Bear. Coming up here outside of that time is not what “We” as a collective do…”We” know who the majority is up here and where our boundaries are…But I decide to go up anyway and tour the area….it is a very gorgeous area. The lake, the trees, its breath taking…However there are NO black people up there. I didn’t see one within the 6 hrs we spent there…we definitely got a lot of stares especially when going into restaurants. People were friendly but I was concerned about our food and felt uncomfortable even at a youngish place like The Lakefront Tap Room. They had good food but I couldn’t help but to feel uncomfortable. I mean who could blame me when me and my husband are the only “black” folks there (my husbsnd and I are biracial so we’re pretty damn lightskinned 😅) Anywho…I would never go there by myself or stay there without my entire black family mother, brothers, sisters, aunties, uncles and cousins.
