It’s relatively safe, but there’s definitely a lot of racial tension here — this is actually where I was first called a slur. The town leans heavily Republican, and there really isn’t much to do aside from the annual Lapeer Days festival. There are good people around, but don’t be surprised if you get followed around in stores.
A quick word of caution, especially for women — whether white or of color: stay alert. Human trafficking is a serious issue in the area, mainly because of the town’s close access to a major highway. I used to live and work here, and my job actually trained us on how to spot trafficking. There were times when men would photograph every female employee and hang around the parking lot afterward. Honestly, if you’re alone, it’s best to stay cautious anywhere between Flint and Detroit.
Prison town. State and local and city police stations. Very small town and nosy. Highly republican the inns here support the Trump rallies bookings. Many idiots, but also some decent people here. Not a great place to stay but shouldn’t have any problems. I am white but I would put it at a very low medium for the map. Near by would be Davison mi. Upper mid. Also Orion upper mid. More places more safe nearing Detroit scattered cities. This being said there are also quite a few food stops here. Just check who you want to endorse from their history. Walk ability(like getting places on foot) is variable small city area yes the rest no.
