Had to stop at a rest area in this town while traveling.I’m from Chicago. My crazy ex husband (white guy)with no situation awareness waited til the last minute to tell me we had a quarter tank of gas. The gps set us off on an exit with no signs but 1 for gas n a diner. The Marthon was really an old station/bar. I had my ex pump while i went inside. There was a white lady and an Indian lady both dressed like biker chicks. I asked to use the dirty restroom. When I came out the Indian lady asked me if I wanted to buy a bracelet being nice I said yes but they wouldn’t fit she handed me others made of string. As I’m headed out the store the sun is going down and it’s two pick up trucks with maybe 4/5 white men standing by the end of them about 10 ft from me just starring. I tell my ex we should leave and the men never stopped starring. I looked at the bracelet the lady gave me and something told me to turn it over and it was a swastika symbol on the big stone. I flipped out and tossed it and told my ex to get us out of there and I believe had it been darker the men would have followed us. But that’s just my experience as a young interracial couple traveling with children. I’m black btw. I also looked up google reviews all bad.I would avoid and try to get to the next big town just a few more exits up. I wouldn’t stop anywhere in southern Illinois without any big name fast food places. address

Traveling While Black
Sundown town along route 57. Don’t let the minor league baseball team fool you. If you are black and out and about after dark, the Marion PD will stop you, and they will arrest you. Do not stop here for anything at night.
There are a variety of food places that offer drive-through. Even during the day, I recommend not leaving your car.
