We some of the locals food which was decent. The hotel we stayed in was fine. We also spent some relaxing time on the beach. We didn’t experience any negativity while here.

Miami has a lot to offer! Most people will stay towards South Beach, but I do recommend you going to the Wynwood, Brickell, Little Havana etc area to experience more than meets the eye. I think if you’re looking for culture, you will find many because Miami is very diverse with people from all over the world, especially Latin America. However, Miami does have a culture of itself, and I think it can be a bit superficial, money hungry, and overall very demanding. One thing I can certainly say is that if you’re a woman, Miami can really be the best or worst experience for you and definitely go to Miami with friends that you trust. I almost had one of those experiences where a friend left me for a man there so it happens often and it can certainly happen to you 😭 As a Black female traveler, I felt relatively safe in some scenarios and not safe at all and others. When I was with the group, I would often get cat called by men, especially on Ocean Drive and in South Beach. But the vibe is much more laid-back and chill in Wynwood so I felt better there… but not safer. I like to stay at the Arlo in Wynwood. The one thing I will say is that nightlife culture in Miami can be very hit or miss. They are very specific with the representation that they want in clubs and sometimes it can be very difficult for Black people to get into certain mainstream clubs that don’t specifically cater to us.

Wynwood walls is an amazing art museum in Miami. I loved the beaches and walkable nature of Miami Beach.

I would love to have eaten there however the owner closed at the last minute. We made reservations online, through the app on the restaurant’s website. I got the confirmation to be argued with about semantics. Then she recommended another black owned restaurant around the corner that was also closed.
I’m okay with them being closed, I am okay with showing up and being told they were closed, what I am not okay with is being argued with about your mistake while hungry attempting to support a black-owned business. We have to do better.
Our stay in Miami wasn’t all a bust. We did enjoy Hurrem Hamman Wellness and Spa. It is a Turkish spa that offers saunas, a hot tub, rainforest shower, ice rooms, cold bath therapy, massage and facial. The best part was the unlimited supply of fresh fruit and the Turkish restaurant. I had the lamb chops and my husband got a grilled salmon cesear salad, the food was delicious. The service was amazing and the spa employees made us feel welcome. As the only black couple in the spa, we didn’t feel singled out.
Lunch at Dukanoo Jamaican Kitchen was stellar. I had the oxtails and my husband got the jerk burger. The only thing better than the food were the drinks. They were beautiful, tasty and had a heavy pour.
We stayed at the Hampton Inn Wynood. There was nothing special about the hotel, it was clean with the typical continental breakfast. No one who worked at the hotel did anything of note. The hotel employees were very use to tourists and being pleasant.
