Day 1:
Arrived too late to see the sites, but was definitely ready to eat and relax after an exhausting drive in 97 degree weather. Didn’t see many advertisements about a good place to eat that excited my palate. Had to search several sites until I found one. MD Island Cafe in Norfolk, VA. Decided to try it out. It’s attached to an international grocery store, which has all the essentials and adds an authentic ambiance to the restaurant. I ordered a small Oxtail, with rice and beans with a side of cabbage and plantain’s. Everything was delicious. Not too spicy but just enough seasoning to remind you of the Caribbean vibes. Great place to try out. It’s more of a take out kind of place vs sit down restaurants, but still good nonetheless. Not very expensive in comparison. Would drop in again if ever in the area. My family wanted burgers so we tried a place called Smashers. They seemed to like it. You can custom order your burgers with fixings for no extra charge. Can’t beat the!
Driving could be a bit confusing. My GPS was sought of vague. Almost missing turns, to the point where I had to switch from Waze to Apple Maps because the turns were so sharp and unclear. A lot of twists and curves with plenty of impatient fast drivers, but otherwise okay. Stayed at an Airbnb that was relatively close to everything so that was good.
Day 2:
Planning to visit the Nauticus before heading onto our next destination. My only complaint is most tourist areas by the waterfront closed early. With longer summer days it would be nice to have some areas open longer. By and by, most people I came in contact with were okay. Nothing concerning.
Went here for my brother graduation from Navy and we had a lot of fun except the hotel we stayed in didn’t seem to care for my children they seemed racist
Went to visit my friends from college who moved down from nyc. Since it is a navy port town, most people were mixed. It was good and refreshing even though it was in the south. I have been there tons of time and will be there again.
