My husband and I were staying in York Maine and the staff at our hotel recommended that we visit Portsmouth NH for dinner and drinks. We went to Cava in Portsmouth. We were definitely the only black people in the restaurant. You can tell that local people don’t see black people often but we kind of expected that in NH. Service was good nothing to write home about. Food was delicious. Things started to feel uncomfortable when we walked into a local bar not too far from our restaurant. We sat at the bar closest to the window just to see a make America great hat on the table next to us. Looked around and noticed that we were getting some stares. I was tired and didn’t feel like being in that space so we left. As we were walking to the car there were a group of guys on the side walk that seemed bothered by us being there as well. We felt MUCH more welcomed in the neighboring cities Portland and York Maine.
