Puerto Escondido really does have many environments to offer. From relaxing at the quiet but lively beach at Club de Playa Villasol, to crazy scary waves and great nightlife at Playa Zicatela, to active wave pool and chaos at Playa Carizalillo, and shopping and great food at Punta Zicatela, there is no shortage of things to do.
My favorite meal was at Playa Carrizalillo, El Buzo with the red umbrellas (one you reach the sand, the far rightmost restaurant on the beach). It had thee BEST and most fresh coconut shrimp and catch of the day. I wanted to go back every day for that meal! It tasted best right after a massage on the beach.
My favorite thing in Puerto Escondido was going on a sunset Dolphin and Whale Watching tour. Although it was early, it was so serene and the guides took so much effort to show us all the ocean life they could. We saw hundreds of dolphins, 5 whales, and 3 huge turtles.
