Stayed at the hard rock resort for a wedding and had a great time. There was a lot to do…lots of pool restaurants bars and the beach. They make you feel at home.
My sister and I went to Punta Cana a few years back when all the controversy about the alcohol was killing people, etc. There was no time where i didn’t feel safe. Anyway, we went and we stayed at the Dreams resort. It was very nice. Food tasted different. It was a little bland but I understand with all the people from all over the world visiting. It was always something to do. We took th be countryside tour which was a great way to see the island and learn of their culture. We did a jungle tour, and obviously enjoyed the beautiful beaches. The waste was very clear and a beautiful color of blue, green and teal.
Everyone was nice and friendly, great shows and fun theme nights. The spa was the best Spa I have ever experienced. It was made like a natural spring and you walk down into the spa. I had a chocolate massage. It was amazing. My skin glistened afterwards. First time i saw a fish pedicure. Not interested in trying that at all. There’s so much to say. Not sure if the Dreams Resort is still there but it was beautiful and I had a great time.
My very unfortunate experience came from the black Dominican people who were clearly prejudiced against themselves and those of us who looked like them. It was really sad and upsetting to see from most of the people we came in contact with that they were very low vibrational towards people who were dark skinned and would go out of their way to engage with white people or Spanish speaking people.
My first time in punta Cana was a blast. We stayed at the all inclusive occidental oribe. Which was on the cheaper end, which means you get what you pay for. The food was mid. The room was also meh but we expected that going in. It’s very old and used but our bed was clean and that’s what we cared about the most. We brought shower shoes and everything we needed to clean. Also you have to bring your own washcloths, they don’t do that there lol.
The pool was fun and the music was decent, if you’re nice to the people at the bar they’ll let you hook up to the speaker and pick your music. The wasn’t a lot of us but we had a blast with the some people we met from the Uk.
The club scene is lit, def not at the hotel. We went to drink point which closes at 2am and then a 10 min walk to a casino for another club I can’t remember the name. The club in the casino tries to rob you into buying a table. You don’t need one, it’s $10 to get in and that’s it.
We did the atv excursion through the hotel which was fun, transportation included. We opted for no googled and wore sunglasses on the ride and regretted it, had so much dust in our eyes lol. But overall it was a nice time.
Uber Driver Travel Warning
Whatever you do make sure you have setup hotel, private driver, or taxi transportation in Punta Cana. The Uber Drivers reroute your contact information to subcontractors and they text or call you and ask for more money than is quarter on the app. If you do not pay they will cancel your trip and leave you stranded. They may also pick you up and then charge you more than quoted over the phone and force you to pay before exiting car which may lead to volatile situations. If you have any issues report to the American Embassy there via phone or online website. Here’s my actual account of a scenario https://youtu.be/fTk6f16OG2g?si=XWr4cbYz81ig25B4 you can follow for more travel tips. Currently Uber has suspended some driver accounts and they are aware of this bad behavior. Be very careful with transportation in Punta Cana.
I surprised my husband with a birthday trip to Cap Cana Punta Cana and it was amazing. We stayed down at the Marina at Hotel Casa Don Luis boutique hotel and when I say the service was amazing it was top notch!! We couldn’t have felt more welcomed and Pampered. I am really big on customer service and if it’s bad we will be out of there so fast. We visited scape park which was an adventure. They have zip lines, monkeys, parrots, caves and water drops for those who like the outdoors. The restaurants at the Marina were delicious and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable.
The only downside is when you’re at the airport there will be an aggressive group right after you clear customs that look like immigration trying to sell you excursions for half the price, Do not stop for them!!
My husband and I thought it was some part of immigration the way the lady stopped us. She made it seem like we had to go to the kiosk to let them know what hotel we were staying in. After listening to a guy named Walter for about 30 minutes everything sounded great. He never once mentioned that we would have to sit through a time share presentation. My husband and I were hooked and thought great, we could get half off the things we wanted to do anyway, free breakfast and still make to our planned excursion we booked through Expedia on time. Boy were we wrong!!
Very inclusive and diverse. Very black friendly, especially considering it is DR. There are many activities to do and many all inclusive resorts. Can be expensive but overall worth the experience. From research I know going off resorts can be a little more dangerous so be mindful if you choose to do so.
Located on the Punta Cana resort is these pristine lagoons. In order to minimize the impact on the ecosystem they limit the number of people that can come into protected area and lagoons. A reservation is needed. The staff was extremely helpful and welcoming and once you hike to the various lagoons, you are truly enjoying a piece of Dominican paradise. It is about $10US. You can get a tour for an additional $.
I absolutely love Barcelo Bavaro Resort so let’s talk about it!
This year will be my besties and I third time traveling here for my birthday and I am as excited as the first time. We felt VERY comfortable every single time.
• You are treated with so much love and respect
•The staff os accommodating and polite
• for 2-4 people in a junior suite, the cost is $450-$650 per person
• The access to the beach is phenomenal
•Everything is included (food, amenities, alcoholic beverages)
• If you want to leave the resort to EXPLORE talk to the staff they will literally give you the Real Run Down
•The views, pools, and excursions are HARD to beat.
We did the party boat (free rum and coke), the buggy adventure, and the tour. It was so much fun! The men were flirty and funny but respectful. They do make most of their money in tips so they work so hard.
Not all of us liked the DR food but they have fast food places and local food spots that are good. I wouldn’t explore out of resort at night but the resort is Large.
Food at resort 7/10
As soon as you check in (MAKE DINNER RESERVATIONS, Right next to the checkin counter) YOU’RE WELCOME!
My trip to Punta Cana in January 2025 was a relaxing one. I find traveling to countries that are a part of the diaspora are easier to navigate with less racial tension amongst the staff at the airport and resorts. We were even referred to as “family” when greeted by some of the resort crew and at the airport convenience store.
Although there’s civil unrest going on in Haiti, we didn’t feel the pressures of that in the DR, which I was initially concerned about. Travel costs are reasonable ranging from $1300-$1600 per person for a package deal. I’d recommend to Black travelers looking for a 5 star resort experience.
My only draw back was the resort I selected, which was Secrets Royal Beach. Our room was a little on the dated side with needed repairs, and it was smaller than what I am accustomed to. Also we sprang for the preferred club with butler service and all he did was text us via WhatsApp a daily itinerary and asked if he could help with anything. And when we did ask for help he delivered 30% of the time.
