Surrounded by sundown towns. If your campus (ISU) your safe. Other than that. Not an appropriate place for black peoples to travel.

Traveling While Black
I visited Terre Haute, IN in 2023 for some repair work on my car. I did not know this at the time, but Terre Haute (or at least some of the surrounding areas) is/are sundown towns. My day there lasted longer than I planned, and didn’t start my way back home until after dark. While driving, two cars tried to corral me and force me to stop my car. Thankfully I was carrying and I believe one of the drivers saw me reach. After that they left me alone and I made it back home safely.
