    Traveling While Black

I went to Seoul for a month last summer and it was an amazing experience. I went through my university so I was with a large, mixed group. It was my experience that MOST people are very kind and welcoming. I never felt unsafe. However, some people do not like foreigners in general and others are fascinated by them.

There was one campus bus driver that would pull off or not stop at all if there weren’t Korean students waiting. That was the most adverse experience I had in 30 days.

I would definitely recommend traveling here. Traveling on the bus and train were fairly easy to figure out. Whenever I was lost or confused a kind passerby always offered to help or kindly helped when asked. **Koreans are generally very private and don’t like being approached by strangers. So do so with caution/kindness**

Food was cheap and amazing, surprisingly so were a lot of the hotels.

I will say, A LOT of people were taking my picture or asking to take pictures with me. This made me uncomfortable after a while as it happened almost every time I left campus. At first it’s cute, then you start to feel like Sarah Baartman. So… Take that into consideration. You will be a bit of a commodity.
