A Little About Me:
First generation college student. Graduated with my Bachelors from Kennesaw State and my Masters from UGA. Love to cook and travel.
I visited Tulum for my graduation trip from graduate school. We stayed at an all-inclusive resort. The ride from Cancun airport to Tulum was about an hour. Tulum is not a turn up scene like Cancun, it's very relaxed and laid back. I would consider this the perfect baecation location. You can take an excursion for different things the same as all other carribean locations. The good was good but nothing spectacular. It's definitely a great location for a solo traveler.
I flew directly into Cuba from Atlanta. I stayed in an airbnb in old Havana and it was really cute and clean. My airbnb host was amazing. She provided me with a local cell phone to use while I was there and kept the place stocked with juice, liquor and wifi cards if needed. So far Cuba is the best country I've visited. It's so historic and completely shut off from the rest of the world. Everyone was friendly and I felt completely safe. My airbnb was in the perfect location and walking distance from a lot of restaurants. I booked most of my excursions (cooking with a Cuban family, photo shoot, salsa lessons) through airbnb before hand. There's also plenty of taxis hanging around that you can take for tours. The beach that I visited was Varadero and it's a two hour drive from Havana but it was well worth it, the beach was beautiful. I used the support for the Cuban people as my travel reason which staying in an airbnb (considered a casa in Cuba) was all that was needed to travel. I received my visa at airport the day my flight departed through Delta which was $50. Please exchange your USD to either Euros or Canadian Dollars before you go. They charge a 10% fee on USD to exchange to Cuban Pesos. Your US debit cards WILL NOT WORK in Cuba so please prepare to exchange money. For a 5 day trip $400 is enough for spending money if you book your experiences beforehand. Most of your money in Cuba will be spent on taxis, food, and souvenirs. A lot of things are in walking distance so if your ok with walking just bringing comfortable shoes.
I visited Varadero while I was in Havana. Varadero is about a two hour drive from Havana and cost about 150 cuc round trip. The beach was absolutely beautiful. We took our own drinks but they sold them on the beach for a very cheap ok price. Rental for a beach chair and umbrella was only 3 cuc total for two. We also went out on a small catamaran for 40 minutes for 30 cuc. The beach is very clean, quite and relaxing.
I visited Panama on a mission trip and it was a fun experience. We stayed in Panama City and went out daily visiting different parts of Panama. Not many English speaking locals, so make sure your have a translator app. Everything was very affordable and everyone uses uber here which I love.
I went to Montego Bay in July and add able to attend the Reggae Sumfest. I bought my tickets in advance through event brite. It was an amazing experience and all night event for two nights. It was fun being out with the locals and witnessing then in their element.
I really enjoyed my stay at Natura Park Eco Resort while in Punta Canta. I spent most of my time hanging out on the beach and eating. I did plan some excursions through the resort which were very fun. Horseback riding, atv riding, and zip lining were all my favorites. I definitely plan to visit again.
While visiting Durban we went bar hopping on Palm Blvd. This area reminded me a lot of Miami. Nice strip of bars with a lot of culture. I also spent the day at the beach in Durban. The beach reminded me a lot of California beaches. The water was very aggressive and cold. I would not advise even an advanced swimmer to get in. Lots of restaurants surrounding the beach.
Visiting Table Top mountain is an absolute MUST! This is one of the seven nature wonders of the world. We took a cable car up which was absolutely breathtaking. Be sure to go early because if it gets windy they will close cable cars and will not allow anyone to go up. I would suggest buying your ticket in advance to avoid lines. You can buy them online or your hotel may sale them. We took am uber to the mountain from our hotel. Also visiting Waterfront is a must. Extremely huge shopping mall with several restaurants. Take a jacket, it gets cold and windy at night.
While Johannesburg I stayed at the African Pride Melrose Arch. This hotel was absolutely gorgeous and centrally located. They offered breakfast every morning that was included in the reservation. They had a buffet but you could also order from the menu. The pool area was very calm and relaxing and it also offered a bar. The food and drink prices were very affordable. The Melrose Arch area is very popular and there are several restaurants and shopping areas near by. I was able to walk to a lot of the cute restaurants and most of them offered happy hour.
