Hello to all Black & mixed-race couples! We want to share our 6-month experience in Bucaramanga, Colombia.
Bucaramanga is a city of about 300k residents, worth a very small population of Black people. Bucaramanga is known as the “City of Parks” and has some of the friendliest people & police I have ever met.
While 99.9% of our experiences were positive we did encounter a racially charged experience while shopping in “Dollar City Infinity” in the Cabecera del Llano neighborhood. The moment we entered the store Security eye-balled us and followed us around watch in our every move from a close distance. I shared a review a detailed review on Google about this business.
We moved to an Airbnb in Torre de Monterrey in the Sotomayor neighborhood. Our condo community immediately accepted us & invited us to art exhibits, mountain trail hikes, dinners, game nights. The sense of community was incredible
If you are not familiar with the Colombian cultural they are very close and hugs, as well as kissing the cheeks are a normal.
I highly recommend a visit to Bucaramanga.
