We traveled there for our Honeymoon back in 2022, and stayed for a week. We stayed at the Dreams resort, but we also went into the city to experience the local scene. We had a great time! The people were very welcoming and we felt safe the whole time. Highly recommend a visit.

Traveling While Black
The experience here was very interesting. They use every piece of breakfast in a mother meal throughout the day as nothing goes to waste. The resort we stayed at was under renovations so the alcohol was plentiful since the activities were non existent. There were two pools open and we spent the majority of our time in or around the pool. I think anywhere children live, they can visit. So when I took my son, he wanted to practice his Spanish and people were very friendly and polite on and off the resort. There were no issues with feeling othered or the feeling of I’ll be mistreated because I’m black. We were asked if we were American a few times by tourists and the only bad experience was at the airport when leaving. We took a cab, and the driver tried to charge me more than the listed price and cursed me in Spanish, not knowing I understood him. All in all, a safe place for black families to visit although I wouldn’t go back anytime soon.
