Okay, first of all I am from Detroit. Second of all, yes it’s safe for black people to travel because there is mostly black people there. So I mean being racist here is kind of impossible because you’re going to see a bunch of black people. So if you don’t like black people don’t come to the city. I wouldn’t recommend like 7 mi 6 mi Joy road cuz it’s kind of ratchet but downtown Detroit most definitely check it out

Traveling While Black
Detroit is one of the safest cities for black people as far as police interaction because we are a predominantly black city. We are losing some of that foothill to gentrification so we need more black people with direction to move to the city and help be apart of the resurgence/Renaissance of the city. Black owned businesses are growing again. Most places you patron in Detroit have black people working there so you’re never alone. Some of my favorite black businesses are:
They Say-restaurant
The block-resturant
The blvd- black marketing company
Wilcox Business Consulting- Black owned general contractor
Aya House- black owned business membership and networking org
Motown Mimosa- black owned brunch spot

Detroit had never really been on my radar as a city to visit but luckily a good friend of mine decided to return home which provided the opportunity. There is nothing like a local to share with you all the aspects of a destination. From bike riding along the Detroit River on a breezy summer day to savoring some tasty creations at the Fourth of July taco festival, visiting the Motor City was quite the unexpected treat. Also if you’re a pizza fan, consider Detroit style pizza (never knew that was a thing until quite recently). Como’s Restaurant in Ferndale with a spacious outdoor patio and very delectable pizza will probably be one of my first stops on my return trip to Detroit!

As a Detroit native, I can’t help but to recommend my city. The Motor City is best known for Motown Records, home of a ton of legends, and is the epicenter of Black culture. Downtown Detroit is now flourishing with dope things to do and see such as visiting the Detroit Institute of Art (DIA), Eastern Market, and the Heidelberg Project.

There’s too many things about Detroit that makes it just an amazing, culture filled, one of a kind city. I would say it’s a place filled with history and nightlife but there’s also so many good places to eat. I love kuzzos chicken and waffles, bakers keyboard lounge for some good soul food and jazz. for some fun, you can roller skate at roller Cade Detroit. Also, visiting the Motown museum is nice as well!

While in the city, check out Black Owned Ima, for some yummy Japanese food. You won’t be disappointed. When you’re finished, you must check out the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History and/or the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit. If you are looking for nightlife, Deluxx Fluxx is certainly a vibe!

Detroit is still an amazing city to visit. So many things are close together you can experience a lot of what it has to offer. In the inner city, you can eat at local coney islands for an inexpensive meal. Or you can walk around downtown for something more upscale. You can catch a variety of festivals at Hart Plaza throughout the warm summer months. Any season you can stroll on the Riverwalk or head down to Belle Isle for a cool ride around the island. If you choose to go further out, the surrounding city’s are pretty close and easy to get to with many options of fun as well.
