Hangzhou is a small city that not many people know about and it is quite romantic. We went from shanghai and caught on if the speed trains which is an experience on its own! It literally looks like a place that a Shakespeare movie could be made! There is a lake called West Lake which is very popular and at night lights up with music its really spectacular. There are little restaurants along the lake where you can have a drink and we had a tea tasting cause why not we in China! There are also a number of shops where you can purchase some authentic green, black and other varieties of tea. Defos a place to see if you have alot of time in China and want to see something different apart from the Beijing and Shanghai!
Hangzhou is a small city about an hour outside of Shanghai , famous for the West Lake which is featured on the back of the RMB1 note (Chinese Currency). The entire city is pretty much centered around the lake and it is quite stunning in the summer/spring evenings.
There are boat tours which last about 1h and take you around the lake. The highlight of these tours is the music fountain which occurs at 7pm every night. You can also hire a bicycle and cycle around the lake – its quite beautiful around sunset and is much cooler in the summer.
6 Harmonies Pagoda(Liuhe Pagoda) is one of the most famous pagodas in Hangzhou . The pagoda literally has 6 different tiers and they can all be accessed. The pagoda was destroyed and rebuilt twice making it’s architectural appeal even more fascinating.
Situated within Liuheta Culture Park there are quite a few other notable sites nearby which are worth viewing. This include Dreaming of the Tiger Spring – a stone carving near a spring which is nestled within the middle of the park amidst stellar greenery. You can also access Hangzhou zoo from within the culture park.. The zoo isn’t very large, however, there a fair collection of animals housed here including a cute, chubby panda.
Leifeng is a 5 story pagoda which sits on top of a hill and can be seen from the West Lake. The view from this pagoda is quite stunning, especially at night as it overlooks all of Hangzhou providing aerial views of the lake , mountains and city.
If you have enough time you can visit the China National Tea and make a trip to one of the many tea plantations to have an authentic tea tasting experience.
As most attractions are centered around the lake traffic in Hangzhou can get a bit bad so plan accordingly when you are trying to form some sort of itinerary. I used Didi (China’s version of Uber) to get around the city and this wasn’t too costly.
Hangzhou is beautiful! It’s also known as the “Paradise on Earth.” This city has been immortalized by countless poets and artists. The West Lake Cultural Landscape has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The West Lake is the most beautiful lake in the country. You may take an optional boat ride on the serene West Lake. Its the most renowned feature of Hangzhou, noted for its scenic beauty which blends naturally with many famous historical and cultural sites.
You have to visit the number 1 Tea Plantation and taste the well-known Dragon Well Tea. Many studies say that green tea is excellent for your health. Dragon Well Tea is the best Green Tea in China.
