My name is Nico. My fiancée & I got engaged January of 2020. We got engaged while I was here in Afghanistan. I sent her engagement/wedding ring to her place of residence & got my ring shipped here. I mostly stayed on base so I can’t talk about Afhanistan specifically but we eat on base for food and live on base. I wanted to surprise her since we already were doing things pretty unorthodox. I put on my wedding attire, got my band of brothers together & did an “Afghanistan Groomsmen” theme photoshoot. We will be getting married in Bali in April & it’ll be just us. I wanted her to know that even when things aren’t done “normal”, it doesn’t mean things can’t be special. I’m eternally grateful for my brothers in arms to have been there for me to make this moment special for my fiancée and I. We came here, all strangers not knowing each other, but we leave here brothers in arms which feels just like blood to me. This is the story behind the pictures.
