This was my favorite city during my solo trip to Costa Rica. First off, the people are very helpful & friendly. I stayed at Noah’s Forest by Tifakara which is a beautiful property with a great view of the volcano. Every morning I woke up to the amazing sound of the rainforest. So many frogs, birds and monkeys! I even saw sloths right on the property. They helped arrange tours for me. I did a sloth tour, the Mistico Hanging Bridges and the volcano tour. Definitely visit the Rio Celeste waterfall. It’s a drive but worth it. There are natural hot springs as well. I enjoyed the local seafood & most places mixed their liquor with fresh fruit juices which I loved! I felt very safe here and can’t wait to return.

Location: La Fortuna (Tabacon Resort)
First let me start off by saying the people in Costa Rica are extremely friendly and pleasant. Not once did I feel inadequate because of the amount of melanin I’m blessed with✊?.
If you’re looking for an adventurous drive to your location La Fortuna has it all. At times the roads can be a bit winding. However, driving carefully and mindfully around the curves and you will be fine.
The total drive from Liberia airport is about 1.5 hours its best you use waze for navigation although google maps works just fine.
Arriving in Tabacon you will be treated like a star. The resort has two sections. The first section that waze will lead you to are the hot springs. However it’s best to head further up the hill to the section where the resort is. From there they will take your car and bags and lead you to your room.
Now off to the hot springs…. You have three options. Drive back with your personal car (there is another parking lot). Take the shuttle from the main lobby or lastly, walk down the hill. Depending on what you have planned for the day you can decide.
The walk was pleasant and safe. you will MOST likely run into animals.
It’s hard to describe the scenery of the hot springs because it is otherworldly in a sense. The water is heated by the volcano and it doesn’t give off any unpleasant smells. I’d say the only downside are the amount of rocks in the hot-springs but that can be fixed by bringing water shoes
Price – pricey but welllll worth it
Duration – 4day
Traveled – car
Food – local ($) resort ($$$$$)
Activities – La Fortuna waterfall and Catarata llanos de Cortes waterfall
Tips – Bring water shoes, eat locally, drive safely, TURNNN UP

I visited in July during rain season, however, the rain will not interrupt your trip and the sun will come out throughout the day.
Day 2- Mystico Park Hanging Bridges – You can drive here and you will be able to take a picture in front of the volcano. The self guided tour is 2 hours. I would recommend you get a tour guide so that he/she will be able to point out things you would not necessarily see by yourself. Be prepared to possibly get wet and also be prepared to hike and cross bridges at high heights. Cost 25 Duration 2 hours https://www.misticopark.com
Day 3 – Tabacon Hot Springs – This is a great opportunity for you to get wet and relax in the hot springs. This is a scenic area and would be great for pictures. Price includes lunch or dinner, towels, and lockers. There is also a pool and bar if you would like to grab drinks. Cost- 75-85. https://www.tabacon.com

Traveling While Black
I went on a Costa Rican Adventure where I visited five cities across CR. I went zip lining, bungee jumping, rode ATVs, Cliff Diving you name it! Monteverde Extremo Park was great! La Fortuna Waterfall was beautiful. The locals are very particular about tourist swimming near it because several people have drowned. Also, Baldi Hot Springs was a great experience. Swim up Bars. Great massages food. I have videos and pictures on my IG. Playa Jaco is fun too but tourist need to be careful. You will get offered drugs and/or prostitution when you walk down to a certain part of the beach. The food is amazing and most places speak English. I speak Spanish pretty decently and they seemed to be a bit more helpful. Overall very friendly.
