I visited Riga and Jelgava in March 2024 for 2 days. I had a wonderful time. I flew into Riga and caught a taxi to the hotel. The taxi was €24. I was told later that Bolt would have been cheaper (I downloaded the app and used Bolt a couple of times. It worked well). I stayed at the Neiburgs Hotel. I would highly recommend this hotel. My room was like a studio apartment. I had a kitchenette, nice sized bathroom, sitting area, and king sized bed. The room was very clean and the breakfast was very good. It was in old town and an easy walk to the sites, restaurants, grocery store. I took a day tour of Jelgava and the Hill of the Crosses in Lithuania. I used Latvia_Guide. I booked it through Expedia, so I’m not sure that’s the official name of the company. My tour guide was named Erlens. He was phenomenal! He was very flexible and accommodating. He was a very safe driver and very knowledgeable about the area. His English was excellent. He even opened the car door for me! I would HIGHLY recommend doing a tour with him. He warned me that people might stare at me because they are not used to seeing Black people, but I didn’t have any issues. Everyone I came into contact with was amicable. I found those who spoke English were usually friendlier, probably because we could communicate. If I had the opportunity to go back to Latvia, I would do it again.
Travelled to Latvia, Riga March 2023. Beautiful city however…. travelling whilst black. I was there for 3 days. Constantly starred at and on the last day, a woman spat in my face in the street. There was a lovely old lady who helped but aside from her, the rest looked on minding their business. Never again will I cisot this country!!.
