I stayed in the old part of Mazatlán (Centro) and absolutely love that it was walkable and my airbnb was a couple of blocks from the Pino Suarez fresh market. Community is everything here, and it was on display when the sun started going down. We noticed that around 4 pm, the streets around the Plaza Machado were closed off, and the restaurants started setting up tables for outdoor dining. Thursday-Sunday nights, there were bands and vendors. Couples, friends, and families were out having dinner or sitting and having conversations while listening to the music. Other than our airbnb being on a busy street, I enjoyed myself fully! I got to practice my Spanish, and the people would either correct me or try to switch to English, and we would work it out lol. I tried my best not to use Google translate unless the conversation was way over my head. Oh! Almost forgot the high as all get out curbs (at least 1 ft high). Our tour guide said it’s because the streets used to flood back in the day, but you definitely need to pay attention when you’re crossing the street in a hurry or stepping off the corner.
