I’ve grown up here. Majority white people and sometimes they do stare, mostly the young teenager age people but I’ve never felt in danger. My sister was once walking her dog and was told by a lady in a car that she was “letting the dog cross the street, not the illegal immigrant”. We are half black and half white so the lady was just plain wrong but it is still very upsetting. In certain spaces I have felt like I dont fit in, like in the Lumber yard (food and shopping area) or in the downtown area. Shopping in this area is also incredibly expensive and not worth visiting. Marin consistently votes blue but the wealth these people have is so insane that they are also out of touch. However, getting away from the town is perfect. You have Muir Woods National Monument and Mt. Tamalpais State Park which are incredibly beautiful for the nature as well as the history and I have always felt safe there. I would recommend visiting for the nature. If you want to check out downtown just be aware that you will stick out and if that makes you uncomfortable you should not visit.
