We stayed at the Sands Ocean Club but I’d recommend staying elsewhere or booking a room on the highest floor. We switched rooms twice due to various issues one being a huge water bug wanting to share the room with us the other the room was dirty. We ended up being moved to the top floor which was much better. We had a great view of the beach and the level didn’t really have other occupants so it was super quiet. The staff despite the issues were really accommodating, personable, and very helpful. They gave a booklet where you can get discounted meals during your stay. We felt safe overall and I recommend going to the different beaches in the area. The one we were closest to had a live band and great drinks. Our favorite places to eat were Pizza De Roma, Croissants Bistro and Bakery, Bagel. Factory.
Some hotels and air BnBs are suffix plantation but there are a lot of beach hotels also,it appears that golf is the main sport there, Cherry Grove beach is nice there’s pier fishing with all the supplies you need and bar and grille, the Atlantic beach Black Pearl, and the first colored school is a must to visit, for dinning Captain Archie’s for seafood and Liberty Tap Room& grille for a variety of meals, two can dine for $50. Cruise Ocean Blvd, all in all we had a great time.
Great time staying at the Jamaican owned and operated Bermuda Sands Hotel. My birthday celebration with my family was awesome thanks to the suggestions and assistance by the hotel staff.
Places like The Chemist is a great atmosphere and they gave R&B Brunch. Should open back up in April 2025. Charlie’s Place is a historical landmark. A must visit! Also, Atlantic Beach which has many black owned businesses.
Myrtle Beach is one of those places that can be a 10 or a 2 rating depending on the establishment that you walk into. For the purpose of the review I will share places that I would visit again. Pay attention because there are places that still wave the confederate flag and the Trump 2024 flag. I would stay clear of those establishments as they are at higher risk for the “isms” that come along with those flags. Here are the places that I would recommend. Restaurant: Ryptide was fun, great views and good food. Top Golf: great experience Big Mikes Soul Food: Great Food, extremely long wait time though. Lodging: VRBO or Airbnb near the water is more affordable than the nicer hotels. The Asher Theatre (black owned) for The Motown Review, we also say a tribute to Earth Wind & Fire that was SPECTACULAR
Myrtle Beach a great place for a getaway. There is always something to do. Every corner you look there is a place to mini golf or eat. There are several ocean front restaurants (My personal favorite is Wicked Tuna) There’s also a variety of seafood buffets to choose from (Bennetts seafood buffet & Crabby Mike’s in Surfside beach) There are also cool indoor activities in case you run into rain. There are several dinner shows! Overall a great place to vacation.
Myrtle Beach is an amazing place to visit for both families and couples interested in adult fun and relaxation. There’s 60 miles of beaches to go be a beach bum, but when you’re done ther’s plenty of food to fill you up. The local’s secret is Happy Hour is EVERYDAY! (Even during tourist season) Whether you want to go to chain restaurants like PF Changs and Soho or local faves like Handley’s, Chucks Steak House, Sol Y Luna if it’s 4 o’clock happy hour is available!
You should book your next vacation for Myrtle Beach. Every major and small airline uses MYR!
