We went to Oahu for my Mother’s 70th Birthday and it was beautiful! Not too much rain. Islanders were very friendly and shopping was great. The tours were very informative as well. They don’t give alot of military discounts however if you know an Islander who lives there ask for their discount card…way less costs for everything!
I been there 6 times. The relaxing envirnonment makes you want to stay forever.
I’ve never experienced any problems however, a police officer told me to avoid the area near the end of Highway 1 after 6:00pm. There is a park down there where some shady locals hang out. Do not pay to go one the Pearl Harbor tour, the Queen’s palace, the pineapple plantation or Diamond Head. Rent a car and drive those places yourself. You will save a lot of money. The submarine tour (ride) is awesome. Buy your tickets ahead of time at the ticket office in from of the Hale Koa Hotel. ( pull up to the hotel and around to the far end) All of the large hotels have luau’s, you don’t have to stay at them to attend but the prices very. To save money, go to a grocery store away from the tourist area to buy water and snacks (when you first get there) the have dinner at a restaurant.
Oahu is a beautiful island; very picturesque. If you are looking for a touristy, outdoor environment to enjoy the Hawaiian culture, this is it. However, keep in mind that all food and drinks are very pricey because most food and beverages are imported. It’s a beautiful, sunshiny laid back place to go.
Oahu, Hawaii. My black travel tip is to stay in Oahu when visiting Hawaii. Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa was a perfect stay! The food at Dukes, which is located on the property was tasty, but expensive, however, it’s Hawaii and you’re on vacation! Shark cage diving was just one of the highlights, but there are many adventures that await you.
