We did a day trip from Croatia to Slovenia. I agree with the other reviewer, it’s underrated. We booked a private tour with a driver who picked us up. In the 2 hour ride to Slovenia she provided great insights to the country’s history. We started in Llubjana the capital city. We visited the castle and rode the funicular up where you get a bird’s eye view of the city. It’s extremely green and lush. We traveled back down to see city center and our guide made suggestions on lunch. We were told that horse is a delicacy, we chose not to indulge. We tried their sea salt chocolate, which they give you free samples of and dumplings. Prices are not bad and the currency is the euro.
We later travelled to Postonja, which has Jana=cave. It’s very cold, bring a jacket. The caves are huge! It’s amazing to see the evolution over time. We also got to see “Om” which are large salamanders that live in the cave.
Overall, I’d recommend a day trip. Almost everyone speaks English, the food is good and the people are friendly.

Traveling While Black
Slovenia is an underrated country! It’s one of the greenest countries in Europe. If you are into beautiful landscapes, castles, caves, and good food, Slovenia is for you! Certain Eastern/Central European countries have a bad reputation for racism, but I wouldn’t include Slovenia on that list. I found people to be respectful and friendly. As long as you are respectful to Slovenia’s natural environment, you won’t have any issues.
Things to do:
-Rent a boat or a kayak to visit Bled Island
-Hike around Lake Bled
-Try Bled Cream Cake
-Visit Bled Castle
-Take a stroll around Ljubljana, the capitol city.
-Visit Ljubljana Castle for a great view of the city
-Walk around Prešeren Square to see colorful buildings and live entertainment
