Wonderful historic adventure. Be sure to stay in the old part of the city. Classic architecture that’s been largely preserved from centuries past. Good foodie location. Few Black people. Some Africans who have migrated here. I felt comfortable. Some stares, but warm interactions.

Traveling While Black
Took a day trip to Tallinn from Helsinki and it was the best decision we made on that trip! Tallinn is an incredible little city with a lot of undeniably beautiful architecture, hole in the wall spots, and is great for walking.
Traveling while Black was a great experience and I remember feeling very comfortable there. I do remember a few instances of stares, but less than 5 including the peeping lady in the picture, and I think they were from tourists themselves. I visited many cute shops and even had a great conversation with the owner of a chocolate shop about how people from Tallinn are usually very kind and welcoming. So I highly recommend you visit this city.
Tallinn truly a gem of a city and a MUST VISIT. Taking a ferry from Helsinki was affordable and a great choice if you have limited time.

Traveling While Black
I was in Tallinn, Estonia for a day, on my way to Helsinki. I took the bus from Riga to Tallinn. The bus ride was comfortable and it was only €10. It took about 4 hours. I took Bolt from the bus station to my hotel. It was a good ride and cheap. My hotel was at the edge of old town. I stayed at Nunne Boutique Hotel. The hotel was fantastic! My room was very clean. It was within walking distance to the history, restaurants, a grocery store. The hotel staff were exceptional! Super friendly and helpful. Everyone that I came into contact with in the city was friendly except one clerk at the grocery store. I’ll assume she had a long day since I got there in the evening. Anyway, I had a great time wandering streets of old town, taking pictures of the city, and finding chocolates!
I echo the other reviewer – I didn’t experience any blatant racism. In fact, I didn’t even notice anyone taking pictures of me. Maybe I’m not that interesting….

Traveling While Black
Tallinn, Estonia is a medieval city that will surprise you! There are castles in the middle of the city, cobble stone streets, and delicious traditional dishes. I spent 2 days there and cannot recommend this hidden gem enough!
Since this country is less touristy than Western European countries, locals may be intrigued by Black travelers. I found that locals were excited to see new faces but weren’t in your face asking for pictures or anything like that. I didn’t experience any form of subtle or blatant racism. All are welcome in Estonia!
Things to do:
-Explore the medieval town walls surrounding Old Town
-Snap panoramic photos from Toompea Hill.
-Visit the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral
-Climb up St. Olaf’s Church, which is the city’s largest medieval building
-Walk around Town Hall Square
-Eat at an authentic medieval tavern called Draakon!
