WE CAME FOR THE MAYAN RUINS! DASSIT!
One our trip to Belize we rented a car and headed out to see the Mayan Ruins. Everything was affordable. We stayed at the Jungle Tikal lodge (in the middle of the jungle). Staying here made it super easy for us to wake up and walk out of our room for about 15 minutes and catch an epic sunrise over Temple 2. If you cant catch the sunrise, its still pretty cool our only advice would be to beat the tour groups or go in the opposite direct of them!
Tikal is one of the biggest Mayan Ruins in Central America. To get to Tikal you can take a bus from Flores which costs about 85 Quanzalesz (10 USD) – I booked at Los Amigos Hostel. I would recommend the sunrise tour which starts at 3:30 am. Tikal is what you make it! You can be there a full day and still have leftover ruins to see. I would recommend a local guide that are available at the gate. I learned so much. It’s so huge that in fact only less than 20% is uncovered (MAJOR). If you are doing the sunrise tour then you must buy your ticket the day before at the local bank around the areas. So much wildlife early in the morning it was nuts. You have plenty of monkeys in the trees and all kinds of birds. The sun rises so beautifully over temple 2. Tikal is a rival of Angkorwat as far as jaw-dropping humongous temples.
