Windham, New York

Windham is very laid-back and peaceful. While there isn’t much Black representation in the area, the overall experience was still enjoyable. We’ve stayed at the Wylder Hotel twice, and both visits were relaxing and pleasant. My wife and I even spent our mini-moon there after our wedding. The staff was incredibly kind and welcoming—they set up a private fire pit for us, provided a s’mores kit, and gave us cozy, warm blankets, which made the experience feel really special.

There isn’t much to do in town beyond enjoying the hotel and visiting the local winery, and most places close by around 8 p.m. The hotel does have an on-site restaurant with pretty good food. If you’re looking to unplug, spend quality time with your partner, enjoy the Catskill Mountains, and maybe go for a short hike, Windham is a warm and inviting place to do just that.
