Medellin is a lovely city nested in the hills of Colombia. Possibly one of my top 3 favorite cities in the world. We stayed in El Poblado which is an upscale neighborhood close to the city center. For night life, we hung out at Parque Lleras, which is a central area for drinks and walking around. Lots of vendors for shopping too. Some good spots that we went to were “The Greek Connection”, a hookah spot where you can break plates for $5. And the Envy Rooftop at the Charlee Hotel, very trendy, cute and great for good brunch. If you want more of a local scene, “Son Havana” is a dope local spot for salsa, they are legit pros and very willing to help you out with a lil two step on the dance floor. All of the food is amazing. Gato Resto Bar was a good lunch spot and Carmen Restaurant was amazing—make reservations days in advance for this spot. It’s worth it! Also highly recommend taking the tour to Comuna 13. I did a tour with a cable car ride up to the area and learned so much about Colombia’s resilient history and got to see the beautiful graffiti art.

I went to Accra for the year of the return and took a quick day trip to Kumasi. Visiting for a day was too short of a trip but we covered a lot of ground. If visiting Kumasi, I would recommend flying vs. driving. The flight was about 45 minutes to an hour. Kumasi is known as the capital of the Ashanti Kingdom. While there, we got to go to the largest market in west Africa, Kejetia Market. We also spent the evening touring the Kings’ Palace, Manhyia Palace, which is now a museum with a beautiful courtyard.

If in Panama city, I highly recommend taking a day trip and evening trip to Casco Viejo. It is a colorful and vibrant part of town with many markets shops, restaurants, bars, and lots of culture. There are many hop on hop off party buses that you can take at night to explore the town for a reasonable price (and get your drink on)! After partying it up there be sure to grab some street food or pio pio—so good!

I went to Cartagena for a girls trip during the end of summer and it did not disappoint. The city is so vibrant, the food was delicious and the culture was amazing. We stayed in Getsemani, right outside of the walled-city. I highly recommend this area! It’s a hipster part of town that has a great mixture of artsy locals and tourist. We stayed in this wonderful boutique hotel, which accommodated all of our needs, from bike rentals to free breakfast. In Gestsemani the night life gets started around 9/10 and goes on all night. The Plaza de Trinidad square has lots of performances, street food, and bars. You can also do Zumba in the plaza which is quite of an experience. After getting a drink or two, you can walk over to the walled city for clubs… or jazz. We wondered upon this awesome jazz speakeasy called Members Only, and the drinks were great. One of the best excursions we took was going to boca grande beach when we went to visit Bora Bora Island . We were greeted with pink mimosas, private cabanas, great hosts and Djs.
