My BF and I stayed in Havana for 5 days which in my opinion was entirely too long. Cuba is a beautiful place but NO ONE speaks English and it’s very difficult to communicate if you don’t speak the language. We stayed in an Airbnb, which was the best route considering the entire stay was $300 vs $1200 to stay in a hotel. There is no WiFi so you have to get in where you fit in. The food is decent, I mostly ate chicken just to stay on the safe side of things. Cuba is very safe, there isn’t any crime. We did get a few looks because we couldn’t speak the language but for the most part it’s a great place to travel while black because a lot of the people are indeed black. The culture is beautiful and the beaches are nice. Don’t settle for prices on anything because everything is negotiable and just in case you didn’t know the US dollar is much less than the CUC, so it may be beneficial to get Euros first then CUC... other than that we had a good time. Alcohol is very cheap and so is the food. My fav places to eat was La familia and El Gusto. These places seem to have the better options.
We stayed in Nassau for 5 days and four nights at the Grand Hyatt. It was decent, over priced but nice. There was a lot to do and the natives are very friendly. We did jet skiing at the resort and there was a lot of authentic food places surrounding the area. Shopping is really not that good but I was able to score a few cute pieces of jewelry. The beaches are like other Caribbean beach; I’d definitely choose Jamaica over Bahamas because of the food lol. I love to eat! Bahamas is a beautiful island and place for the family.I’d say the natives are very friendly and at no time did we feel unsafe as black women. Girls trips can be interesting and fun but you definitely wanna make sure your safe, especially as black women traveling. Bahamas is definitely a safe environment for that.
I went to Montego Bay for five days and four nights. I paid $700 per person during Labor Day weekend for Mocha Fest. Mocha Fest is an Adults only event for everyone and anyone to let loose. We had a blast; we stayed at the Riu all inclusive resort. The food was amazing, they have natives that bbq jerk chicken fresh everyday on the beaches. The hotel was nice and clean with friendly staff that met you at the door with drinks. The spa was fantastic, I had a full body massage for 45 min and facial for $120. Some water sports are included with your stay at the resort but we stayed with the festival crew majority of the trip. Google Mocha fest and you will see more detail! The natives are very friendly and made us feel a part of the culture as black women. The island vibe is super welcoming and makes you feel at home. It was a girls trip so having that sense of security was nice.
I stayed at the Nizuc Resort and Spa in Cancun and it was AMAZING! I’ve been to many resorts in my day but this one was the best hands down. The room was immaculate; it was very clean and spacious! We had the Master suite and it comes with its own personal pool and breathtaking view of the ocean. The customer service is really what made the hotel, they catered to our needs and was very friendly from day one. The hotel also included water sports so there was no need to leave the grounds. We did paddle boating and snorkeling; the infinity pool is to die for. We paid $1000 per person, but that included our flight, hotel and food for four nights. We left the resort grounds once to go shopping and eat authentic Mexican food at the near by galleria mall. They have nice high end stores like Louis Vuitton and Gucci. Highly recommend!!!
