Traveling in Abu Dhabi is extremely luxurious, even doing mundane activities such as going to the mall or the movies has a lavish feel to it. If you enjoy relaxing on the beach, having late nights filled with upscale dinners, shisha cafes, walks along the corniche and elegant board rides, this is the spot for you. I had an exceptional time exploring the louvre, the Grande Mosque and the heritage village and would recommend these tours to any potential visitors. I travelled here with Etihad Airlines, a 14-hour flight from Toronto, Canada. It is a wonderful airline that makes the trip comfortable and enjoyable. I stayed with family in Mohammed Bin Zayed City which is a wonderful little community with gorgeous complexes and unique Arabian architecture. In terms of being a Black traveler here, I did not feel like I was looked at or treated differently because of my skin colour. The Emiratis are of course still at the top of the hierarchy in this country and come before all expats.
I stayed in Dubai and only did a day trip to Abu Dhabi. There is so much to do here from visiting the Sheikh Zayed Mosque, Yas Island (where Ferrari and Warner Bros World are), Louvre Museum, etc. I definitely wish we had spent more days here, but we were able to briefly stop at all the main attractions thanks to the hop on hop off bus which provided transportation and sightseeing for a cheap price. We also had discounted ticket fees to all the attractions because we purchased a go city pass. I would highly recommend getting a go pass because it definitely saved us money on entrance fees in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi. We purchased an explorer pass which lets you choose admission to several attractions across multiple days for one flat fee.

BEACH LIFE : What an amazing trip! After the long flight, a beach day will be needed. Champagne service on the beach was daily my activity. I went during the winter months and the temps are still warm enough to get in the water and soak up some sun.
DESERT SAFARI /DINNER: This was my favorite part of the trip!!!! Took me back to child hood….playing in the sand. We booked this in advance through emirates tours ( $70 on GROUPON ). They picked us up at the resort bright and early. The desert safari included riding on the sand dunes in a 4WD, visiting a camel farm and having dinner in the desert. We also got henna tattoos and Hookah.
Sheik Zayed Mosque- This mosque is like the one thing you can’t miss out on in Abu Dhabi. It is also probably one of the only mosques that can be visited by non-muslims and is considered the key place of worship in the United Arab Emirates.
A hidden gem of the UAE is Abu Dhabi. While most people go to Dubai and then take a day trip to Abu Dhabi to see the mosque and the Louvre museum, few people actually stay in Abu Dhabi. For me Abu Dhabi was beautiful, peaceful and serene. We stayed at the Grand Hyatt in Abu Dhabi, which is a beautiful, newly built hotel. The customer service was amazing, rooms were beautiful and contemporary, and the hotel had a beautiful view of the water at the back. If you’re looking to get away from the fast pace of Dubai for a few days I highly recommend Abu Dhabi. The mosque is a must see! And the Grand Hyatt is a beautiful hotel with excellent customer service
I stayed at the Ritz Carlton Abu Dhabi ,Grand Canal is right across the majestic Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. First thing to do there is to visit the Grand Mosque it is Abu Dhabi’s star attraction. It is one of the largest mosque in the U.A.E. The second attraction was the Ferrari World.. it is the first Ferrari branded theme park in the world. The weather was amazing and the restaurants were plentiful. The Shopping was first class with the Best Malls you can find anywhere in the world.
I was in Abu Dhabi for a day in the end of September 2018. It felt like 40 degrees Celsius in other words…Very hot. As a black tourist woman there was a lot of stares but nothing more. We were told be covered from head to toe when we walked outside… not that they were going to do anything if not but it was a friendly advice from the hotel receptionist. (strongly recommended)
So we obviously had to stop and see from ourselves the majestic Sheikh Zayed Mosque. It was breathtaking, the pictures don’t give its full justice. The whole experience was memorable. You also have to keep in mind that the mentality is different and you have to be opened to it. Women and men had separate entrances. Hugs and holding hands were not allowed inside the Mosque. Women had to wear a sail and remove their shoes. This was one of the most beautiful mosque my eyes ever got to see.
My girls and I also went to the Heritage Village. There is a lot to learn about the whole family behind the throne of the UAE if that’s something that you’re interested in.
You should also stop by the Marina Mall.
There’s a lot of sightseeing to do. The architecture is impressive.

There are soooooo many city tours, its unbelievable. For the most part a vast majority of them are very interesting and entertaining. You learn so much about the city, the country, the geography, the topography. You can go inside the mosque and look at their praying rooms and while on the tours you see all the exotic cars and learn about them. Learn about the countries economic and financial bearings. I learned that their national animal is the camel and why it is. Their shopping malls are drop dead gorgeous. Tried my hardest to not spend every dollar I had. If you go, you must visit Ferrari World and their water park. One of thee best water parks I have ever been to. Theres endless things you can do and it’s a lot better than most of the activities that you would do in North America. Ladies be mindful, to be properly dressed because they are a highly religious and respectful country. Also swearing in public is frowned upon.
I stayed at the Marriott in Al Forsan for 1 week (6 nights) and paid roughly around $900, however this was split between two people. The staff, rooms and pool are amazing there. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. The lifeguards at the pool were especially fantastic. I will definitely stay there again. My new favourite hotel to visit and stay in Abu Dhabi. In terms of getting around, the main forms of transportation are taxi or hire car, the heat and lack of footpaths make walking quite difficult. We were close to the Grand Mosque, Al Forsan resort and Yas Island with has malls, clubs, bars etc.
I absolutely loved Dubai. Tour the red dunes sands, ride the camels, and take a day trip to Abu Dhabi. Totally worth the trip and experience.
I booked the Red Dunes trip through OceanAir Travels via AirBnb booking. The cost was $43/per person and included transportation to and from hotel, Dune Bashing in the Lehbab Desert, riding camels, Dune Surfing, and delicious food. Well worth it.

Our Abu Dhabi experience was also less than $50/person, and including transportation to and from hotel, and a visit to Shayed Mosque, Marina Mall, and the Presidential Palace.

While in Dubai my friend and I took a tour to Abu Dhabi to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Center. We were told prior to the tour what clothing was appropriate for women. We were covered from head to toe. We had to pass through 2 checkpoints for security and to for our clothing. My friend has a huge ass! She was completely covered. The woman inspecting us initially told us to pass. When my friend turned to leave they stopped her and made her put on a baggie hijab. My friend was so upset they covered her IG hijab she took off theirs when we were out of their sight. I thought we would get arrested. ?
Abu Dhabi ….. insert excitement screams. Yes this is how it still makes me feel. It was an amazing road trip from Dubai. We went to Sheikh Mosque which is super beautiful but the lines are crazy. I love that they provide the Abayas for no cost at all. I would say take a guide hence you will learn a lot more about the mosque. You can’t take pictures with poses they deem ‘inappropriate’ because they will be deleted.
The other must do is the YAS Island. Lord you must experience this. I could do everything thing but I must revisit it. I managed Ferari World where I spent my whole day. Fun, fun and fun is all I can say. All the rides however, the best ones like go carting you have to pay an extra cost.
Tip: if you are using an agent let them pay for you to avoid the lines while paying.
I really enjoyed my trip to Dubai. I travelled with my sister in August and the weather was really hot so I’d suggest to travel in May or September. During this time we went to the aquarium, Dubai Mall, Safaris etc. I’d recommend to buy a weekly tourist bus pass (not at the hotel, in a market or shopping centre as it is usually cheaper) the bus has different lines that will take you around the city (to the beach, for a night tour etc), you can stop anytime and the buses are every 30mns. Taxis are also another way to travel as they are quiet cheap (bear in my mind they don’t always give back your change hahaha) Our holiday was very good, stunning place as expected. I am planning to go back to experience the night life as I didn’t have to opportunity to do it last time.
If you’re really trying to see the life of luxury that you’ve seen on tv then this is the place for you.
I went here with a group of friends as the last leg of lei multi country trip. Granted we were all pretty tapped for money so our spending money had to be used wisely.
Ended up going to a night club on the first night which was pretty fun. Can’t remember the name but it was really close to this huge mall and hotel. The mall was so big it was hard t even explore the first floor. It’s such an expensive City that you really need to budget accordingly. My friends and I, two Caribbean girls and and a Russian girl all had a good time. We explored kite beach, the gold market where I bought a fake watch and it was a rush of an adventure. Also went riding in the desert in a Jeep adventure and then smooked hookah under the stars with some sort of desert caravan adventure group.
It’s a cool trip to take once in your life. Once you tick it off your bucket list u don’t need anymore.
Abu Dhabi was beautiful, but I only got one day to visit that city. While there make sure you go to the Sheik Zayed Mosque. It is absolutely breathtaking. If you have a need for speed, also check out Ferrari World. They have the world’s fastest roller coaster: Formula Rossa.
Dubai was beautiful and very scenic place to go see. I went atv riding in the middle of the dessert where we had a dinner as well and also had the opportunity to ride the camels. I was suppose to go sky diving but the wind was our friend that day. I also went to visit the biggest mosque they have it was breathtakingly gorgeous. When you go at the tallest building in the world it’s so high it’s hard to look up. I was able to take a ride to the top of it maybe next time.
I did a 5 day trip to Abu Dhabi for a wedding in September and it was nice. I flew a direct flight from NYC to Abu Dhabi on Etihad. I wasn’t the biggest fan of Etihad as I’m a frequent user of Emirates which is an amazing airline. I would suggest flying into Dubai on Emirates than drive to Abu Dhabi. The first thing I noticed in Abu Dhabi is that it is more conservative than Dubai. Dubai definitely has a lot of tourists whereas Abu Dhabi is more residential for expatriates. I stayed at the Radisson Blu in Yas Island which was nice but nothing special there are definitely other hotels which are more authentic to Abu Dhabi. The Yas Hotel is really pretty but more expensive. For nightlife, I went to MAD Yas Island which was a lot of fun. Make sure to bring your passport to get in.
Yas Mall is nice luxury mall that is nice to visit. I went there to buy oud perfumes. You can also buy very nice 18, 21, 22, 24 carat gold for a good price. I went to the Gold Souk to buy gold. If you plan on getting jewelry personalized definitely go earlier in your trip. The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is a must when in Abu Dhabi no matter what your religion may be. It is so beautiful and free. Don’t worry about bringing something to cover yourself because they will provide you one.
I also highly recommend the Saadiyat Beach Club and Desert Safari.
Abu Dhabi is definitely a city you want to visit if you’re after a calm, relaxed and luxury holiday. I stayed at the Jumeirah at Etihad Towers and the marble interior decor of the bathroom got me speechless. Operating the cutains remotely from my bed and waking up to a view 59 floors high was just awesome.
The Sheikh Zayed Mosque, Emirates Palace, Yas Mall and Ferrari World are places that I’d strongly recommend you visit .

Abu Dhabi is an Emirate that should not go unnoticed. It is a relaxing, but yet interesting Emirates. Abu Dhabi is known as the Capital of UAE, but majority of the tourist activity is in Dubai. I would prefer you definitely go to Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, this place is amazingly beautiful with white domes. It seems so pure and it is great to take a couple of snaps. The desert Safari is available in AD, but I didn’t do it their but rather in Dubai. Don’t forget to check out the Yas Mall and go to Ferriari World ( I would know how to spell it if it was my dream car, but it isn’t )! This is the place where you will see many “Hooka “ shisha spots”. I stayed in the Fairmont, which is has an AMAZING view of the Grand Mosque both at day and night! I would suggest to go to a Brunch there. That’s def. a good time for a day party! Lastly if you are a fan of the movie “ Sex In the City II” you have to go to the Emirates Hotel to grab a 24k infused coffee!
Abu Dhabi is a so stunning. The people are very friendly especially the ones in tourist areas. Must go places are the Sheikh Zayed Mosque, Desert safari which affordable, Dubai is about 2 hours away and cost about $100 by taxi if its a day trip. The culture is so rich that you probably want to purchase everything in sight. The Emirates are extremely hot and arid so I suggest bringing water everywhere you go. If you want to go clubbing Mad on Yas Island is dope. So is Stars n Bars for shishah and food. There’s Formula 1 in Nov and it’s a fun time to visit but it gets expensive around this time. They also dry period where they don’t serve any alcohol at all – so wary of this if you are interested in drinking, etc.
I took a quick trip to Abu Dhabi July 2018. Spent 1 day there at the end of my Dubai vacation. Abu Dhabi is a place you can see in about a day, or 2, if you really wanted to.
When I arrived off the bus (cheap hour+ ride from Dubai), I took a taxi to The Louvre which was about 15 mins away from the bus station. The Louvre allowed me to store my suitcases while I took a quick look. It is a very inexpensive museum (around 15 dollars per person). I Walked around The Louvre for about an hour before I called another taxi to pick me up.
My next destination was The Grand Palace, and OMG she is a beautiful one. This is a free attraction. Men NO SHORTS. Women FULLY COVERED. They will provide the ladies with an Abaya if you dont come dressed properly (check IG for examples, especially if you want to come with your own style). This was the most beautiful building in Abu Dhabi, possibly the entire UAE.
I know you can also go to Ferrari World and ride the worlds fastest roller coaster as well. But I didnt have time for it.
Quickly, I also noticed Abu Dhabi had more gender separation than Dubai. For example my hotel had separate swimming areas for men and women. Also Pink taxis for ladies only.
All in all worth the quick visit.
Visited Abu Dhabi twice. First time in August 2018 and then January 2019.
I suggest visiting during the winter time (November -March) because temperatures are definefly not as hot during the summer. Don’t know how I survived temperatures over 100 degrees Fahrenheit during my summer visit but I did ?
Use their bus system, it’s cheap to get around . Get a bus card on the airport . Also pay attention to where you sit on the bus as there are carts for women only.
Things to do:
1. A visit to the Sheikh Zayed Mosque is a must!!! Entrance is free but ensure you are appropriately covered up, especially ladies .
2. Do a desert Safari … used a company called Emirates Tours and Safari and booked via Groupon.ae . The experience was worth every penny.
3. Day trip to Dubai which included the Burj Khalifa also purchased on Groupon.ae
4. Ferrari World Abu Dhabi ..fun experience if you are into vehicles
5. Emirates Park Zoo
Abu Dhabi! Love it can’t wait to go back! Ensure to visit the sheikh Zayed Grand mosque and ferrari world! I did not experience the nightlife in abu dhabi but partied in dubai which was nice.
Abu Dhabi is a must on your list. Everyone is extremely friendly for the most part. Be kind and polite and that’s exactly what you will get in return. Be sure to stop by the Sheikh Zayed Mosque much more tourist friendly now. Desert safari extremely affordable and a great activity to do. Enjoy the culture, and the scenery. Additional quad bikes, camel rides, fire breathing traditional dancing night show. Tons of souvenirs to purchase, be sure to bring some sand back. As far as night life Mad on Yas Island is the place to be by far the #1 nightclub to go to in Abu Dhabi. As well as Stars n Bars great food, drinks, music and hookah. In November, Formula 1 is a great time although prices increase around this time. Dubai is also an hour in a half by car or there is a bus that travels to and from frequently time varies from 1.5 to 3 hours by bus.
There’s several things to do/ places to go.
1) Make sure you visit the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
2) Ferrari World
3) Dates market
4) go to Sadiyat and Yas Island
5) Zaya Nurai Island (this place is goals, you can purchase a day ticket if you can’t afford to stay there because it’s very pricy. Picture Maldives vibes)
6) Emirates palace
Most of these places are quick photo stops you don’t have to pay any money to get in. For Ferrari world you would have to purchase tickets to go into the amusement park part. But there’s places for you to shop and take photos with an actual Ferrari
All im going to say go see the mosque! It’s breathe taking thank me later lol
My daytrip to Abu Dhabi from Dubai was amazing.
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque was our first stop and driving up to it can take your breath away.
The balance of arches and domes poke from around the corner as we go got closer.
Our guide told us it took 11 years to make and that you have to be fully covered from head to toe to visit.
Now my girls and I had bought some abayas the day before but they were see through.
Even though we had clothes underneath, you could still see our arms and that wasn’t going to work.
Luckily our guide had some extra abayas that we wore underneath.
It was a gift and a curse because the sun in Abu Dhabi feels like it’s smack dab on your face, lawd!
Anyways, walking into the mosque you feel cool due to the marble floors and the cool air coming off of the pools.
There were hundfeds of people walking around, gazing at it’s beauty.
Our guide told us about the wall of attibites of Allah, prayer times, the weight of the chandeliers and more.
Afterwards we headed to visit Ferrari world and the Al Khubeirah 92.
The view from the top was equally as beautiful as the mosque.
Make sure you add Abu Dhabi to ur list when u visit the UAE!
Abu Dhabi is a hub for travel, entertainment and overall fun!!
I have lived here for 4 years and I still discover new jewels on a weekly basis.
My top three tips when traveling here are
•Use discounts (Groupon and The entertainer)
•You must see:
The grand mosque
Emirates palace(have gold flaked tea)
Visit the corniche
Heritage village
Gold souq
Saddiyat Beach Club
•Decide if you want to taxi vs driving
-American drivers license holders can drive here using their American license.
-Driving can be aggressive so beware but it’s manageable.
-renting a car is pretty affordable on a weekly basis and you can easily make it to Dubai within an hour and a half.
Abu Dhabi, Part 1.
Unlike more historic parts of the world, you won’t have that constant feeling in Abu Dhabi that you’ve got to rush around madly in order to see everything. Museums, the beach or Ferrari World, lunch, shopping, a visit to a small art exhibition or a talk at NYU Abu Dhabi, even a trip to the desert can be all relaxing! Dinner at the Emirates Palace it’s a must. I will be Back in Abu Dhabi soon!
I was only in Abu Dhabi for a day trip, and of course I went to see the Grand Mosque, which was beautiful, but an underrated excursion is going to the UAE Heritage Village. It’s a working replica of a traditional Bedouin village, complete with camels, sword- makers, and glass blowers. There’s a museum that shows Bedouin life and a souk where you can buy souvenirs. It was a very cool part of Abu Dhabi that people do not see often.
Great experience taking the trip to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque would recommend this to anyone who is travelling to the UAE. Take some time out and go visit this breathtaking piece of what I can only describe as a masterpiece. Also if you have time, visit the Zayed Palace! Abu Dhabi is only about an hour and a half drive from Dubai.
Pretty much everyone knows that THE thing to do while in Abu Dhabi is a visit to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, and it’s well worth it. It’s breathtaking.
Women MUST cover head, arms and legs down to the ankle. Respect of the local culture is mandatory, so it’s advisable to do a little research in advance of dos/donts while in the UAE.
We took a day trip from Dubai, a chartered bus brought us first to a shopping village where we got some great local fabric, and souvenirs. Then we went to the Mall, then as sunset we had our
visit to the Mosque. Everyone can enter the Mosque regardless of gender if faith.
Picture taking is allowed.
All of us in the Tour Group were African American, and none of us had any issues traveling while Black.
I visited the Sheikh Zayed Mosque with a group of African American friends and we loved it. It was absolutely stunning! We felt extremely safe and everyone was very nice. We did have to be covered head to toe but we did not mind. The experience was unforgettable.
Babe and I visited the Sheikh Zayed Mosque when we visited Abu Dhabi and it was beautiful! We also visited Ferrari World theme park which is similar to Six Flags Magic Mountain. Also, we went to the Presidential Palace, which was romantic and nice.
I went to Dubai and Abu Dhabi with my close friend. Both of us are Afro-American women. We felt safe the entire trip and really enjoyed ourselves. We stayed in Dubai and took a day excursion to Abu Dhabi. You can see the difference between the two cities. While being Abu Dhabi we saw different hotels and where the people of the government live. We also took a visit to one of the most beautiful mosques I have ever been. This is a must see and it is called the Sheikh Zayed mosque. The women must be covered from head to ankles and you must take your shoes off. You can take pictures while being in the mosque but do not sit on the ground and disrespect their place of worship.
I experienced Dubai and Abu Dhabi with a group of 10 girls for NYE (December 2017). We didn’t really go with a set itinerary planned ahead but we did alot of fun things!
We did a day trip to Abu Dhabi. It was about a 2 hour drive from downtown Dubai. We used an Uber the previous day and the driver said he would be our personal driver to take us to Abu Dhabi the next day. We went to a market and bought abayas to dress as the women do in Abu Dhabi. The dress code was not as strict as I thought it would be. But, you do need to cover up at certain places. We visited the Sheikh Zayed Mosque while in Abu Dhabi. We wore our cover up abayas and had to take our shoes off. This is a must see. The mosque was so beautiful and serene. A very peaceful experience.
We also took the hop on hop off bus to do some site seeing in Abu Dhabi. The bus made a stop at the beach with a view of the Burj Al Arab in the background. It’s best known for being the only 7-star hotel in Dubai. Every visitor to Abu Dhabi needs a picture of the sail-boat shaped hotel!
Before we headed back to Dubai, we made one last stop. We went up to the 74th floor of Tower 2 at the Etihad Towers complex. The Observation Deck at 300 provided a breathtaking 360 view of Abu Dhabi’s cityscape and surrounding islands. The observation deck also had snacks, light refreshments, and beverages for purchase. I saw couples sitting and enjoying tea. The cost wasn’t bad. It was around 95 AED = $25 USD.
We wanted to check out the Louvre Abu Dhabi, but didn’t have time.
Abu Dhabi had so many unique and beautiful sites to see and do!
Abu Dhabi would be more traditional in comparison to Dubai. Definitely worth a visit because that’s where the Sheikh Zayed Mosque is. You can also visit Ferrari World which is where the fastest roller coaster in the world is located. Yas Island has a lot of things to do. Also check out Saadiyat Island.
