I’ve gone to desoto a few times because my boyfriend is in prison, the nearest town is Arcadia and while I have seen a FEW black people(they mostly work at the prison) I’ve never been harassed but I have gotten some crazy looks and this was up in the daytime. I thought about staying there but between the motels, trailer park and camping sites I’m straight. I literally rather make that 3 hr drive everytime I go then spend the night there.
While I have family in Arcadia and resided in the neighboring town over, there’s not much to do here. This is a town with pockets. I don’t personally travel through here after dark based on what I’ve been taught growing up. Traveling during the day is fine. I take many backroads between Arcadia and Orlando. I have never personally experienced any issues but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen after dark.
Warned by an ally to steer clear. She volunteers for a foster youth support group. She recommends not even driving through. You’re welcome.
