If you are looking for a day or a weekend away from the sometimes hectic city of Addis, bebrezeyet is definitely the place to go. 45 minutes drive from Addis it is made up of seven lakes and many great resorts.
How to get there
– If using local transportation, you can catch a bus from the kality bus station in Addis (you can catch a local blue mini bus which stations around the round about near the international airport to get to the bus station) which will take you straight to the city of debrezet.
– After reaching the bebrezeyet bus station you can use the local transport which are tuktuks known locally as bajaj to reach to your hotel. The drivers don’t speak much English but all you have to do is mention the name of the hotel very clearly and you shouldn’t have an issue. Prices for short destinations with in the heart of the city range from 5-30 ETB but for rides to the resorts which are a bit further it will cost about a 100 ETB.
Where to stay
– Kuriftu resort is one of the nice resorts especially for a family trip as it has kayaking and boat ride options as well as a spa and great dining.
-Pyramid resort, adulala resort and babogaya resort are also great accommodations, but they do not provide kayaking and such activities.(unless you consider hookah an activity, if so pyramid resort has a great hookah bar over seeing the lake?)
– For budget travelers I suggest guest houses like 7E(address can be found on line) with prices ranging from 300-500 ETB.
Where to eat
– restaurants can be found on almost every block with in the city but if you are looking for international cuisine then 7lakes hotel has a great Indian food menu.
