Franklin, TN is a typical Southern suburb with the extra spice of Civil War reenactments. Of the small towns in Middle TN, this is one of the less unsafe places. The people are not rude and can be friendly. If you need to stop for gas, especially after dark, stick to I-65 exit 68B Cool Springs.
The city has a decent Pride festival, it hosts the county fair, and the Galleria mall has a welcoming atmosphere. There are a lot of chain restaurants so finding familiar food choices shouldn’t be a problem.
The police WILL tail you and run your plates. The feeling of “otherness” is in full effect. If you do the speed limit and stick to commercial areas, then you shouldn’t have any problems.
