So I spent a summer in Houston doing an internship and fell in love with the city! If you can stand the heat it is a foodie heaven. They have sooooooo many restaurants. My favorite restaurant was the Turkey Leg Hut! Definitely check that place out if you are look for a good meal. The portions are huge! They have a loaded backed potato that can fee two people.
Pro tip:
Many of the restaurants also do really good brunches. If you see something called a Pizzookie on the menu…or it! It’s a giant cookie loaded with ice cream. Delicious!
The culture and black experience in Houston is amazing. We went to an Africa soco love inspired by Afro beats music and the culture. There is a large support for black owned businesses and programs. There is a lot of black owned businesses and culture infused events.
We had dinner at Lost and Found the food was amazing! The restaurant is really cute, the service was great. All around great place! When you are in Houston, this is a must that you visit! You will not be disappointed. In Houston, they really put great effort into their eatery’s.
Pythagoras restaurant very good and nice vegan restaurant. Nice hospitality good music to enjoy they have various vegan options. I recommend that your try the cyress burger. It’s a very nice elegant place to take someone on a date. They never show any confusion when black people come in the establishment.
Houston Tx has a great night life and culture. The food is amazing I recommend taking a lot of pictures and enjoying the moment.I actually went for my 40 bday. We stayed in the Galleria area. The weather was very nice in March . Be prepared to pay for parking everywhere. We stayed 5 days.
Before I get to the food, just know that Texas really is THAT BIG of a state. If you’re planning on road trippin b/w Texas cities, know that the 3hr drive includes driving at 80mph pretty much the whole time. There’s no cutting that down. With that said, spend more time roaming locally.
Obviously the BBQ is top-notch but there’s a regional taco chain out there that’s worth the visit. It’s called Torchy’s Tacos. They may seem pricey at first but you’re pretty much getting 2 tacos in one. Also, check google maps for their “secret menu.” You won’t regret it.
Lastly, just 45mins south of Houston, you’ll find some of the best seafood in the country. And for a true local, Gulf-seafood experience, YOU HAVE TO visit the Cajun Greek. Authetic Gulf seafood. Get you a full platter of damn-near any and everything. You won’t be disappointed.
You will, however, be disappointed in Galveston’s beaches. Nothin’ much to see there.
Safe travels+
Traveling abroad with friends or your person doesn’t have to break your pockets! There are plenty of financially feasible options to get you where you want to go. Whether it be in the U.S. or outside the states, you too deserve to catch flights with the burden of worrying how much traveling will set your finances back.
Houston is known for its great food scene and has cuisines from many countries. Due to its large Asian community, it’s best to visit Chinatown if you’re looking for scrumptious Asian food, which is 6 square miles long. When searching for authentic Italian cuisine, look no further and stop by Giacomo’s. Best sure to make reservations if dining on the weekends or the evenings. They are closed Sundays and Mondays. For southern food and the best chicken and waffles in town, visit the famous Black-owned Breakfast Klub. Beware that there is typically a long line. Some of the best Mexican cuisine is in the Pasadena area. Looking for good barbecue? Check out the Pit Room for its tender brisket, ribs, and sausage. Can’t go wrong with their sides.
Houston can be a foodie’s paradise. I was there for a week and couldn’t get to all the restaurants on my list. One that stands out is The Honey Hole, which has a wonderful brunch menu; i.e., lobster and grits. Another is Trill Burgers, which has some delicious burgers. Be prepared to wait in a long line outside, although it moves quickly.
How you and friends can spend an amazing Friday night in Houston!
Hit Pappadeaux on Westheimer for some amazing seafood and drinks. Happy hour is the best time to start the day and runs sometime 3pm-6:30pm. I love anything frozen to get the drinking started.
Then, take an Uber or walk a calm 13 minutes to Prospect Park. 9pm or 10pm is a good time, 8pm if you like to be early). Hookah a little bit, get a fish bowl for you and a friend, and get the drink flowing! If you’re really lit, get a section outside with a hookah and a couple bottle. It’ll be bread, but it’ll be worth it!
Finally, finish off your night at Onyx. Cover can be a little up there, certainly, we paid $20 each, but it was worth it for the vibes in there. It also closed at 6am instead of 4am so we were out until the sun came up.
Houston has a little something for everyone!

I liked Houston. I went there to visit my cousin and it was fun. The people were nice and the restaurants where I went were too good! I ate well. I visited the zoo, the museum of natural sciences and the Hermann park conservancy. For brunch lovers like me, I recommend Lucille, EggHaus and Neo Baguette for brunch.
I love Houston because it is so diverse. There is always something to do and somewhere to go explore and no shortage of people to meet. There is so much art and so many foodie places to go. This city is really perfect for anyone who wants to explore many interests. Although only downside it is very humid :). While visiting try out the Turkey leg hut, axis and alibi, bar 5015, the Alley kat, the breakfast klub, and Houston krab queenz
I visited a friend in Houston who had just relocated and had the most amazing time. The weather was beautiful. I always thought that I just simply wasn’t a club goer BUT the truth is, the best clubs are in the South. I visit Grooves and Aura along with a few day parties and it was lit. Southern hospitality is real. The music is great, the food is an amazing, it’s affordable. I have contemplated relocating to Houston one day. Strongly recommend a weekend there with you friends.
Visited Houston, Tx in 9/2018 – stayed in city about 45 mins away tying Houston international airport called Rosharon. We visited the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum in Houston which gives tribute to the former slaves, freemen and Black Civil War soldiers, which were the first to serve during peacetime. During our visit, we had the chance to meet one of the last soldiers which was truly an honor – he gave us a personal tour.
Houston is a city full of history. Speaking of our visits to multiple communities for homes – we fell in love with all the beautiful homes & affordability.
Tried done Tex mex (Texas Mexican food) – pretty good. But we’re from Los Angeles where hands down you can find the best Mexican food.
Will be definitely visiting Houston again!
This is a favorite place to visit for my friends and I. From the delicious creole and southern dishes , day parties to clubs. Houston’s mix of young black professional people adds to this great city. Although Texas is large being from the Midwest they make us feel at home every time we visit. You cannot mention Houston without saying food and night life. Frenchys (fast food), Breakfast Klub, The Address , Turkey leg Hut, Phil and Derricks are some of my favorite places to eat and catch a party or just great music. You honestly can walk into a place to eat and catch a whole party. Gotta love it.
I’m happy to say that I’m a proud Houstonian. There is no other place in North America that I would rather live. Houston, Texas is the 4th largest city in the United States and 6th most popular in North America. Houston is known for having a diverse community. In my opinion, the best place to visit when traveling here is Downtown Houston. You can visit the Houston Museum of Natural Science and check out some cool dinosaur exhibits. You can stop by and visit the Houston Zoo houses over 6000 animals from 900 species. One of my favorite places is Discovery Green it’s a public urban park in the middle of Downtown Houston that offer various activities depending on the day of the week. What I also love about Discovery Green is that it’s surrounded by a ton of options for restaurants, hotels, and coffee shops. A great way to navigate throughout Downtown Houston is by downloading an app called “Yelp” I still use this app currently today. Depending on your location Yelp will give you nearby suggestions of other places and you can check out the reviews. Houston is an amazing city to visit feel free to stop by any time we would love to have you.
Spent a great weekend in Huston, attended a Huston rockets vs Celtics game and had some fun fun. They fans are incredible in Huston. Visted many of the museums. The Huston fine arts was my favorite one. It we stayed in the finicial district and it just had a couple spots open, I’m not sure if the nightlife happens in another part of town but downtown was very quiet. We have dinner at a bar near the hotel (the moonshiners)that had pretty good food and drinks, I ordered the pulled pork nachos! I recommend reneging a car, everything is a good distance and Uber will probably get expensive.
Houston has it all! No matter what you are looking for I’m sure you will find it there. Also before you book an activity always check Groupon first! They normally have great deals. The food on westheimer is amazing as you can choose from endless different kinds of cuisines. You will not be disappointed in everything this city has to offer!
I had the chance to visit Houston, TX with my best friend. It was a weekend trip so we had to make the most of it. We flew in on Friday night. As soon as we got off the plane we hurried to the house to change clothes so that we could experience the night life. Our club of choice was Aura Night club. This club was very fancy, the crowd was mostly young black professionals, the cars outside were porches and lambos, the place was lit! Two thumbs up, would definitely go again. The next day we visited the beautiful Waterwall (a large wall with water pouring down…gives the illusion of a waterfall) and took pictures. We went shopping at the Galleria Mall which had every high end store that exists inside of it. They even had an indoor ice skating rink! On Sunday we visited Joel Osteen’s church Lakewood Church, and it was a gorgeous church. Being apart of the production was a very cool experience, he also had a very inspirational message as always.
When in H town i would highly suggest eating at Another Broken Egg Cafe! It is by far my favorite breakfast place and the food is if very good quality!
I live just outside of Houston and I’m always downtown! I never get bored of this city, weather your looking for adventure, nightlife, food, etc, Houston’s the spot to be. I love going on adventures and finding cool things to take pictures at so I definitely recommend going to BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir temple, it looks like your at a smaller version of the Taj Mahal. Also, the Tian Hau Temple, it looks like your in Asia. There is a place called City Center that has a great night life for anyone of all ages to hang out and take great pics. There are also restaurants on top of restaurants in all parts of the city, my favorite is a mom and pop one in the Heights called Jus’ Mac.
H- Town. My second home. Gotta hit up V Live. Come with your crew and be ready to shoot your shot. You will definitely see some of the sexiest women the nation has to offer. They stop selling drinks early though 9 pm. You can still buy some at the club though but you know how watered down and overpriced club drinks are. So make your pre party plans early in the day and be prepared for an event filled night. ?. It’s normal to run into celebrities there. I saw the Sauce Twins throw 40 racks in the club lol. 40 racks wrapped around his waste like a championship belt lol. It’s fun though.
H-Town is where it goes DOWN!! I love this city! And no, it’s not because I was raised here, but I absolutely love the diversity and the culture. You will always find something to do starting with our performing arts center, multiple museums, the FOOD(omg the food), and the music. Houston is so diverse you can have Thai to Jamaican curry within one block! Want Vietnamese? Phò is around the corner. The nightlife is very fun! So many bars, restaurants, live music, clubs, lounges, you name it we have it! Midtown area is one of the best spots to attend, Rice Village, Downtown, the Heights, are others to just to name a few. Go ASTROS!!!
