This is by far my favorite thai island. You can walk up the whole island in a few hours. Its little but so beautiful. After two days I was greeting everyone lol you’ll feel like you belong there. They have the sunset and sunrise beach and yes they are called like that because you can see the sunrise on the one side and sunset at the other side lol the beach bars are relaxing. It might get a lil lonely if you go by yourself, unless you stay at a hostel. I met amazing people there. The locals are very welcoming and kind. I would definitely go again!
Koh Lipe is the place to go if you’re looking for a fun beach vacation. I know there are a lot of islands on both sides of Thailand but I’ve only visited 2 (on the western side). I am not an expert to say which one is the best but we went there based on a friends recommendation. We chose to stay at Adang Resort which is another island located right across from Koh Lipe but we went back and forth a few times and spent one night there. In comparison, Koh Lipe is the place to be if you want to be part of the action. There are tons of bars and restaurants which offer live music every night, fire shows, happy hour. Mango restaurants offer bbq. Basically you choose your fresh seafood and they grill it for you. Walking around Koh Lipe, you will never be hungry or thirsty since the island is saturated with bars and restaurants. We stayed at the Reef Hotel and it was nice for a short stay. It’s not on the beach but we didnt care because we had already spent 5 day at a private resort with it’s own beach and we didnt want to be at a beachfront resort having tons of long tail boats as our view. We had a great time walking around and sampling the food and drinking tons of fresh coconut water.
Although I didn’t see many black travelers like you see in Bangkok, the island is welcoming and the people are genuinely nice
Some helpful tips I can provide:
– Bring enough cash with you because the ATM charges about 200-300 baht each time and some restaurants added an extra 3% on the bill when we used our credit card.
– sunscreen/sunblock and mosquito repellents are a must
– Try the seafood Bbq. We went to Papaya mom and New Papaya and would definitely recommend New Papaya which is located at the end of the walking street and make a right. It will be on your left hand side. Papaya mom charged us extra for using our credit card so that’s the main reason we didnt want to go back there.
– Head over to Adang island for a beautiful hike which offers awesome view of Koh Lipe. There is also the pirate waterfall there. It’s not an easy trek to get to the waterfall but it’s worth it.
– Get a massage with a view at one of the places right on the beach
– Grab a drink at Sea La vie. It’s an awesome bar right on the beach. Not Pattaya beach where you get off the boat when you arrive. It’s on the other side of the Island
Happy travels my melanin kings and queens!
