Do a monthly trip for a private client. Beautiful place to have an opportunity to visit. Especially when staying off the boardwalk at the Pier. Mixed groups but mostly surfers and real California people. Love and support all around from my experience. Depending on the hotel you’re at you may get funny faces if you’re dressed different but it is definitely somewhere to visit
Heading into downtown Pismo, we noticed very few Black families—or people of color in general. We kept to ourselves and focused on the highlight of our trip: riding dune buggies on a beach so massive you can’t see where it begins or ends! We rented a few (plus-size friendly) buggies and had an amazing time.
Pro Tip: Don’t do this activity drunk or with people who can’t follow instructions—this isn’t the place to play around. Kids should be monitored, and in my opinion, they should ride with an adult unless they have experience.
Despite feeling isolated at times, and receiving dirty looks, the stunning views and peacefulness of the beach made up for it. If you visit, I highly recommend staying in a hotel near the beach not an Airbnb. Safe travels!
Pismo Beach California is an absolute dream! Beautiful views, friendly beach town. Delicious food. Lots of outdoor activities. Central coast California. Surfing hiking.. kayaking.. windsurfing. Parasailing. The list is ongoing. I loved it so much moved there for two years. While there are not many black locals, the locals are very friendly and welcoming.
