I webt to Japan in February 2019. The aim was to go to Rusutsu Ski Resort and snowboard for three days. The trip was short because of my flight from South Korea where I lived. Customs and immigration was smooth. Transportation from the airport was a little challenging. If you don’t make ground transportation arrangements with someone or acquire a bus ticket before they sell out, geta train ticket and take it to the station nearest Rusutsu and grab a cab. It’s pricey. If renting a car, they drive on the right side of the riad in Japan.
Okay. Now for the adventure. Japan’s air quality is great compared to a lot of places in Asia. Their snow is soft like powder. That’s why it attracts so many winter-sport athletes from all over the world. The snowboarding experience was nothing short of amazing. There are park sections for tricks, wooded snake trails, slaloms, plenty man-made and natural jumps, and many cafés and restaurants. Outside the resort, there are many bars. We ran into a private Australian party while there and they told us to stay and drink.
I enjoyed the ski resort and being treated respectfully while in Sapporo. I didn’t care much for the food (a lot of bar and restaurant owners there aren’t Japanese but European). I had to hire the Airbnb host to drive us back to the airport in order to make it own time. The log canin house we stayed in was a rent-a-room stay with breakfast in the morning for extra cost. It cost about $450 for the three nights there. All in all, not too bad for three days, save the high cost of transportation and lodging.
