I went here last year as a day trip with friends. One of my friends is white and Im glad she was. The parking that we used before going onto the beach had a trump 2026 flag. You could definitely feel the energy shift moving from downtown Savannah to the coast. Even in downtown Savannah, there were maybe 4 other black people walking around on St. Patrick’s weekend. Nothing overtly horrible happened, but I definitely didnt feel super comfortable. Knowing my friend could play karen was the saving grace.
I live 15 minutes from their I didn’t have a good experience at one of the bars. Went in their showed her my ID, and she felt it wasn’t me I had sit by the door. At the time my sister was dating white guy, he got upset they let him in me and my sister, and I couldn’t. He told the lady that if we couldn’t come in , he was leaving. We left and went to another one. Hotels were just ok, but some need updating. I only like to walk the beach and going on pier. Sometimes relax my mind. The parking is pricey.
Tybee Island, Georgia. It’s about a 30min drive from Savannah. Absolutely beautiful there. The beach is amazing, can easily spend the whole day there. The water is perfect, tons of seashells to pick. Not overly crowded since most stay in Savannah. The pier is beautiful to see as well. Sting Rays Seafood is a must. Small restaurant with delicious fresh caught seafood. One of my favorite beach vacations.
