Hands down the most beautiful country I’ve been. When in Switzerland Zurich is the closest city to visit the storybook picturesque places of Lauterbrunnen, Grindenwald and Interlaken. The countryside is so clean and at every public water fountain is fresh spring water from the Swiss Alps. Farmers dressed in their Lederhosen with their cows is so surreal. The only drawback about Switzerland food is very expensive. However if traveling with children purchasing train passes will allow them free entrance into museums. Also if you do go in late November please go on the Bernina express through the alps for that real Polar express experience. It is magnificent
My boyfriend and I visited Switzerland for 8 days stopping in Zürich and Zermatt. During our trip, we visited historic sites in Zürich and also toured the Matterhorn while in Zermatt. There are a good amount of activities to do between Zürich and Zermatt, however, please be mindful that Switzerland is expensive and the currency is the Swiss Frank. We were not super impressed with the traditional Swiss food, however, Switzerland does have Italian influence and we found the Italian food to be good. We recommend going to the Lindt Home of Chocolate and Thermalbad. Additionally, Zürich’s transportation system is efficient and very easy to navigate.

I’ve only spent a few hours in Zurich. The trains are very user friendly and you can easily get from the airport to city center in 15 minutes. Zurich is walkable and very clean. It’s a typical European city in my humble opinion, nothing to be overjoyed about.
Prices are high, people are nice and coffee is good.
When I think about Zurich the first thing that comes to mind is RACLETTE and the clocks everywhere… for all my cheese lovers Zurich has some of the best raclette spots. I went to this spot called Raclette factory. The food was great. Cool spot where you can chill and get raclette dishes and hot chocolate (what I had). Good customer service as well. People were really curious about my origins in a good way.
Zurich is a very expensive city in a very expensive country. Due to exchange rates and generally high prices, you can expect to pay between 30 and 60% more for most goods than you would in the US. The one thing that is less expensive in Zurich (and throughout Switzerland) is Swiss watches. If you’re into high-end luxury watches, then go ahead and grab a good deal on a Breitling, Tag Heuer, or even Rolex.
I’m putting this under Zurich but we were only in Zurich for about 3 hours on our way to Davos to snowboard. To rent our gear, we paid about $120 to cover 2 days. It was my first time snowboarding and the first day we went the snow was still falling and I was also falling a lot. At the bottom of the mountain there was a little restaurant that sold beer and burgers, to me that was the highlight. Switzerland is very expensive though so be prepared.
I was in Zurich for about 24 hours and really enjoyed the city. I traveled alone most of the day without any issues. The city seemed very safe. It was easy to move around on the train system. There was no system to check or swipe a card before getting on to the train to get around the city, it was practically free!
The city itself is known to be pretty expensive and depending on where you eat, it can be costly. Most of my meals were pretty expensive but at the same time, I chose to eat and drink at pretty popular places: Swiss Chuchi Restaraunt (for fondue) and 1842 im Haus Conditorei Schober (for sweets and hot chocolate).
Being black in this area did not seem to be a problem at all. I saw a few other black people in passing. I also went to the Kanslei Flea Market, which I believe was more on the outskirts of Zurich. This area seemed less posh than downtown Zurich and I saw a lot of black locals in that area. I do not think that there was much else to do in that area but I’m sure I could have found some nice Caribbean food in that area.
The nature and outdoor things to do in Zurich are plenty! it is nice to walk by the lake and explore the greenery throughout the city. However, beyond that, it did not seem that there was a lot of activity in the area. the area seemed very peaceful and nice for eating and shopping, not much else. This might have been because I did not know anyone from the area but I still had a nice, relaxing time!
I stayed in the Marriott Hotel near the airport. This location seemed a bit far from downtown, especially when the metro to downtown only runs every 30 minutes. So next time I would have liked to stay in a more central area.
I when to visit my sister when she was working in Geneva few years ago.
Geneva is at 3 hours car from Zurich. You must like nature and chocolate, Geneva is very charming and very different from the big cities like Paris or London. I really enjoyed the mountains view, the Léman Lake, nice typical restaurants in the city center. Travel while black was fine.
Switzerland has some of the best food & wine I’ve ever had! Although it can get very expensive there you can definitely plan a good trip there. While there I went to a roof top thermal bath called “Thermalbad & Spa Zürich” it was really nice! With so many places for food & drinks finding a place should be easy for you I ate good everyday it is expensive $30 per person average.
I went to Zurich to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and what an experience it was!! The city itself is EXTREMELY clean it’s insane — I mean literally not a speck of dust/trash in the city, plus there are public water fountains that people actively utilize.
The city is overall very expensive but it’s well worth it for a treat! The thermalbaths/spas are an absolute must – most spas allow you to buy a “day pass” and there are tons of saunas, jacuzzis, hot-tubs, massages to explore. Def def def recommend for a holiday with your bae or a girl’s trip!
Everyone is so relaxed and chill, it’s difficult not to catch that mood!
I landed in Zürich on Christmas Eve and stayed 3 days and 2 nights. We checked in at the crowne plaza hotel! The customer service was awesome and the food in the hotel was delicious. Directly across from our hotel is another restaurant, I’ve heard good things about it but I never tried it because I was so satisfied with the food at the hotel. This hotel is super duper close to the train station and it’s extremely easy to get around. There is a mall that is about 3 city blocks away from the hotel. Zürich is really big in H&M so if you love that store, you will see it everywhere! I really love hookah and I smoke it everywhere I go. There are so many hookah places in the area for all of my hookah lovers. The closest hookah place is called Lion’s something, I can’t think of the second part of he name but it has a lion statue outside and some graffiti. Great place to stay!
Zürich is a very rich city with fashionable taste. Has a rich history and located on a beautiful lake. The nightlife is lavish and exciting. Enjoy the rooftop restaurants with a stunning view of the city by night after a long day of searching out museums and architecture from medieval times.
I took my 4 year old to Switzerland as a gift for her upcoming 5th birthday and she had an AMAZING time! I must warn you that it is VERY expensive (a McDonald’s meal for the two of us ran us about $22) however it was so worth it. We went during the thanksgiving holiday and unfortunately a lot of the cool things we wanted to do were closed (our fault for not checking ahead of time). If you go during the end of November or the month of December you must check out the Christmas markets because they are INCREDIBLE! Despite many things being closed we still made the best of our trip! We visited Grindelwald (about a 2.5 hour train ride from Zurich) and it was absolutely beautiful! I loved the scenery and if you love adventure i highly suggest the zip line!! We also had a spa day at hotel villa hoengg and it was everything we dreamed of. We traveled to many different cities including Interlaken, Lucerne, & Zermatt, each offering beautiful scenery. Also, I suggest definitely looking into the cable car tour/ski day at Mt.Titlis. You’ll get really good views of the Swiss alps! Trains are the best mode of transportation because they go all over the country & not to mention kids ride free. We got the swisspass which allowed us unlimited train rides for 4 days because honestly buying train tickets each time you plan to go somewhere is going to end up costing you more!
Switzerland is a great place to relax! The people are so chill and happy it’s almost impossible to be unhappy here. Adventure seekers can go hiking the mountains or go skiing
Zurich is a notorious Layover city. If you ever have 5 hours or more I suggest using this an opportunity to explore. I left the airport and took a taxi to a local restaurant just to have bowl of soup and people watch. Best decision ever lol. The people are very curious about black peoples so I made lots of small talk and they were eager to share their history.
I visited Zurich, Switzerland during winter. It was very cold but i was able to get out at night and enjoy downtown Zurich. To my surprise there were many blacks there. There were even many black clubs and Latin clubs. Downtown Zurich during christmas is well decorated much like Time Square NYC. There are also clubs that are for VIPs only and very expensive to get in.
Again it is very expensive to spend in this city
A bar a visit was called Ole Ole Bar. It was a cash only bar and hipster. Drinks were like $20
Switzerland me my brother and a couple of my friends did a road trip from Germany to Switzerland.. first of all out of all the countries I been Switzerland and Norway are the most expensive I’ve seen so far. The cheapest food I saw for example was at Burger King and thst was a small fry for $13 no joke. A dissarano averaged $20 just for example. Other then that we went for Christmas and it was so amazing we stayed one night in small alp village called airolo it was high in the mountains and had the best morning view a lot of snow boarding and skiing the next day we went to this town called Engelberg.. this place was very high in climate first you climb this mountain and then your in this flat surface and the best way to describe this town is to watch the grinch it was exactly the same and then you take to the slopes which is in the clouds or ice skate sled etc they had a lot going on in this town it’s a great suggestion of mine and everyone is friendly .. I actually met someone from Houston where I’m from here so I’m assuming it’s a well known place .. we were just advised by locals
Our experience at villa honegg was super! Really a nice place to stay. Should stay here at least once a life. We enjoyed it a lot, the staff was good very helpful and the place is very clean. Even the spa is super.
This hotel is AMAZING!!! Gorgeous and breathtaking view. Fantastic heated (or hot spring water) pool. Excellent service from the minute we walked in until they time we left. All staff were super nice and helpful. We stayed in a junior suite and it was very nice and very clean. Breakfast was awesome.. there were a lot of variety to choose from and everything tasted so good. I can’t find one bad thing to say about this hotel. I really recommend this hotel.
Switzerland is beautiful and definitely worth the visit. It is an expensive country and therefore accommodation should be booked way in advance to achieve the cheapest prices. The ibis brand is great for young travelers who don’t need too much and have little to spend. Hotel Rebstock in Lucerne was a lovely experience though more expensive was ideally located and the breakfast was great.
Gimmelwald Switzerland has to be heaven on earth. Tucked away in the Swiss alps Gimmelwald is a small village only accessible by cable car. It’s place that takes you back in time when life was a lot more simpler. It has to be one of the cleanest place I’ve ever been. Waking up to the Swiss alps every morning was breath taking. In Gimmelwald I stayed at the Gimmelwald mountain hostel. A little peace of heaven on earth. It’s super small hostel so everyone is super friendly and welcoming. Guest usually hangout, head out hiking on the many of the trails, waterfalls, paragliding. If your into nature this is definitely a place for you. Most importantly the beer at the mountain hostel is amazing.
Zurich, Switzerland is such a beautiful picturesque town. Seems like a very wealthy city as most people drive luxury cars. Surprisingly, there is a pretty cool nightlife. I remember going to a nightclub and dancing to Nigerian and Jamaican beats. Lake Zurich is a lovely place to sit and read a book and watch the swans swim by. If you’re looking for some adventure you’ll have to venture outside of the city. A tour that I HIGHLY recommend is a day trip to Mount Titlis. This place is absolutely magnificent. It cost approximately $160 USD and worth every penny. One of the best ways to spend a day viewing the amazing Swiss Alps. I literally felt like we took the cable car from earth all the way up to heaven! I booked this tour through the Viator website. It also includes a stop in the city of Lucerne, which is another beautiful city.
I spent a few days in Switzerland during my backpacking adventure. There was not much to do the interest me but my time was worthwhile. It is one of the most expensive cities in the world and that is true. I am foodie and love to try local dishes. Make sure you try cheese raclette and fondue. #Abventurous
Zürich was extremely beautiful and expensive. We stayed for four days and enjoyed pretty much all the city had to offer. If you’re in Zurich please do yourself a favor and visit Lucerne, so beautiful and colorful and the mountains are breathtaking!
