I felt very welcome there, got some states but they were complimentary for my skin color,, from men and women, so it didn’t feel bad. It was uplifting.
Stayed at a hotel right on the ocean that was owned by an American and felt taken care of. Great staff, all locals, and felt safe and welcome. Are and shopped daily in the little city area immediately surrounding the hotel and felt safe. If course, kept my head on a swivel and didn’t get reckless in a foreign, but all good vibes. Took a cab only once to go watch a sunrise from a small hilltop highpoint in Cancun proper, but otherwise, all pedestrian travels once I got dropped off by my hired car service from the airport. That was what was tricky because I’d prepaid and arranged everything with the owner and I was the one who got confused as to who I was supposed to go with since they stand at the airport and poach people from their prearranged rides to get the fare for the hotel. And he’d warned me and told me what to do, but I still sorta messed up, but he had my back. Took me to the boat drop off, and he owned the boat too. And drove us to Isla Mujeres from Cancun. Same transport service on the trip home. Cannot complain. The hotel name is Hotel Secreto.
