If you enjoy crystal blue sea and beach bars Phu Quoc is a must a brilliant place to be.
I am travelling long term and have spent the past 4 months travelling throughout Vietnam, My brother wanted to come out to see me but I was unsure how he would feel about Vietnam as a whole. As I had to understand not everyone likes the attention of travelling whilst black. On top of that, he really likes beautiful beaches which you would most likely go to Thailand for the beaches and the bars. After some research, I decided to take him to Phu Quoc and this place did not let down we both loved it PURE RELAXATION!
We caught a flight from Hanoi which was not too expensive ranging from ($40-70) this would have been a lot cheaper if we were travelling from Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) the duration of the flight was only 2hrs, short and sweet. If you book with Vietjet Air you may also find flights cheaper depending on when you book.
We stayed in an amazing resort called ‘Bambusa Resort’ this has to be one of the nicest places I have stayed in during my time in Asia. Cocktails, a large swimming pool and a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere. And not too far from the vinpearl Safari park which we only got to visit for a short period of time but was really fun and the animals look well looked after, this would be a great place to visit for smaller children or a family. There are a lot more options and places to stay closer to the beach but Bambusa resort was a 4* experience at a much cheaper price and if you can ride a motorbike or a bicycle you can rent both at the resort which is only just over 15minutes away from Long Beach and the main area for tourists.
Whilst you head towards Long Beach you will notice more bars and restaurants this is the main area for tourists and is a nice place to relax and get something to eat maybe after a long day on the beach. There’s a variety of food options close by, local food, Pizza and an Indian restaurant. We tried the local food outside at a stall which was okay but you will find much better in Hanoi. Long Beach is a nice relaxing place and is somewhere that you could take your family or just if you wanted to go for a getaway with friends.
MY FAVOURITE THING ABOUT PHU QUOC…
AN THON ISLANDS
We spent a day on the An Thon islands snorkelling and relaxing on white sand beaches and swimming in the crystal clear water. This place was like paradise something you can do on your own or in a group.
You get to the islands via speed boats and it costs around $50 but it is well worth it and you can book this day trip at most hotels.
Overall Phu Quoc is a beautiful place to relax, as a black traveller, my brother felt very comfortable you get the odd stares but the locals were very friendly and other tourists very chatty and welcoming. A downside is possibly the price of things are a little bit more expensive then they are on the mainland of Vietnam but do not let this put you off there are always options of going to mini-marts and buying your own drinks instead of cocktails on the beach every day… a fantastic place and I would recommend for people to visit.
Phu Quoc Vietnam… I would call it the pearl of Southeast Asia to be exact. Such a beautiful island off the coast of Cambodia and Vietnam a short hour flight from Ho Chi Minh or a two hour boat from mainland Vietnam. While in Phu Quoc you could simply rent a motorbike and explore the entire island. The beaches are incredible some of the best I’ve ever been to. While visiting Phu Quoc I stayed at Phu Quoc Island Life Hostel & Bar. Beach access, INCREDIBLE sunsets, great vibes, its everything you want in a hostel. One of the best hostels I’ve every been to hands down. Karla, Sam, and Jue are like family welcoming, loving, and most importantly super helpful. Vietnam is huge on food. So True restaurant in Phu Quoc is something you CANT miss. The food is so fresh and tasty. Phu Quoc is a incredible tourist destination so please be sure to check it out.
